Hi
@AASB99, I hope your interview went well! I'm just resurrecting this thread as I've just had the email telling me I passed the assessments for York, and I can't find a more recent thread about this stage. I haven't been invited to interview yet as shortlisting is still taking place, but I'm quite pleased and I'm wondering if anyone else here is up for the same role?
For those who have been interviewed already, I was wondering if they still do the group exercise? I found mentions of it on here from a few years ago, but it sounds like that might not exist anymore.
Hi Jubilee,
Sorry, I haven’t been as active on this due to being super busy (I’ll get back to everyone who offered advice and helped).
Anyways, my interview was last Tuesday at 09:00. A day before my interview on Monday night I received an email to visit a train station and take into account things Northern do good, and bad and how they could improve on this. Thankfully I already did this anyways so it wasn’t an issue but with the email being late, I’d advise (if possible) to visit a local station and note some things down and keep them fresh in your head before going in.
Moving on, my interview started at 09:00 and it was fairly relaxed to be honest, it was all competency based questions such as:
1. Give me a time where you have had to deal with a difficult person or situation.
2. Give me an example of a time where you’ve given excellent customer service.
They also ask a few questions about your understanding of the role, what you know about Northern etc. My interview took approximately 1 hour.
After my interview we went into the group assessment, it was me and 5 other applicants sat around a table being assessed by 8 people. We were given a task to work as a group and come up with a presentation on what Northern do good, and what they could do to improve. So for example, one person on my group mentioned offering trolley services. The group assessment was nothing to worry about, just be yourself but don’t be to overbearing, be concise with your points and you’ll do great. I was very nervous about the day in general but once you’re there I was made to feel really welcome!
3 days in from my interview I was offered the job subject to a medical, starting early March if all goes well! Can not wait to get started!
I wish you all the best, I’m sure you’ll do great!
