Northern Conductor Application

Hi everyone

I recently applied for a Northern Conductor vacancy in Liverpool, got through the first stage and completed the tests to a satisfactory level and was told I’m now waiting to see if I will be given an interview.

I last had an email over a month ago stating that I may get an interview. I don’t want to send chaser emails because I was specifically asked to wait to hear back. However, I have also seen on this forum that people who applied for similar jobs around the same time (September) are further along the process than I am.

My question is whether this stage usually takes this long (COVID-19 taken into account) or whether the successful candidates usually hear back first and if it takes longer to hear back it is most likely going to be bad news. I’m happy to wait as long as it takes, as it’s a job opportunity I’m very excited about. My only cause for concern is that it has a perspective January start date and I have a months notice so this time frame is becoming less and less feasible.

Sounds promising news. My advice would just be to sit tight and wait - it's a long process in the world of railway recruitment.

I believe many HR staff for Northern are still working remotely from home at this time so this will slow things down. We are also approaching Christmas & New Year when applications can grind to a halt because of the holiday period.

I applied for Blackpool at the end of August and they’ve only just got to screening my application. I passed the online assessment and soon after got told my application was being put on hold (I believe for Covid reasons).

I saw on here other depots were still progressing with recruitment so I emailed HR in case my application had been lost in the system and they just replied basically saying my application is still on hold and they’ll be in touch when they are ready to continue with the process.

I wasn’t expecting to hear back until later next year but it was at the start of this week I was contacted.
