Hi,
I wondered if anyone else has had an issue recently with Northern dispatching complementary tickets as a form of DR compensation?
I've had 3 return tickets and 1 single not turn up over the last 2 months, the first 2 returns approved and "payment sent" nearly a month ago.
The bank transfer delays I've claimed for came through quickly, so it doesn't seem to be an issue full stop.
Have contacted Customer Services and waiting for a response, but was curious to see if any other forum members have been experiencing the same issue.
Regards,
AF

I've had Northern complimentary tickets mysteriously fail to arrive a couple of times in the last year or so. To their credit, in each case they did agree to send new ones through the post, without too much hassle.

Hmm. I'll follow it up with them, but I wonder if someone is mysteriously failing to send them out....

I requested a comp ticket and received a NR voucher. I emailed only for them to try and fob me off a few times about it not being possible to send them once the voucher had been issued

Happened to me once in the last year or so. Again a replacement was sent without hassle after I rang Customer Services.

They do seem to take a while to turn up. The most recent one I got was probably 4 weeks after the approval email

An NR voucher? For how much? And their response was very cheeky!

I saw on Twitter earlier in the week that Northern commented that deliveries are slightly delayed, in response to a similar question.

Thanks, hadn't seen this.

Had them taking a while, but not quite this long before.

£3.59 - was told it wasn’t possible at first, then I couldn’t have one as it would take too long. Eventually agreed….see how long it takes to arrive
Every excuse in the book - pathetic

Hi guys,
Just to update,
I contacted Northern Customer Services and they confirmed 2/3 returns had just been dispatched today, and I think he explained that the others had been actioned, but they might take longer due to an issue with supply of bulk tickets as @td97 suggested above.
So they haven't forgot at least, it's just a longer delay.

I'm surprised they haven't knocked up a way to provide these in a more digital / eTicket form these days to be honest, I know there are quite a few variables but they could develop some sort of online portal to enter your proposed journey details when ready to make use of them and have it generate a QR code on the fly surely

I had a claim that should have resulted in two comps being issued, but only received one. A follow-up by email was ignored and I gave up. I wonder if someone in the relevant department is selling them on.

In my experience you won't get too far with electronic communications but a telephone call will usually swiftly resolve any issues

Case in point the last time I interacted with a member of their customer service team via email they decided to tell me they were off on their holidays and to contact the team by phone then closed the ticket!

I will have a look to see if I have the claim info still to hand, and if so, give them a ring, thank you.

That would require innovation. Something Northern usually lag at :D :D :D

This would be the Northern who have put Rovers and Rangers for the whole country on their TVMs or is that another Northern? Or is it the Northern who do the newspaper special offer and the £1 tickets? Must be another company...

The TVMs that work on a sunny day, if offered a slice of nice carrot cake. And £1 tickets is all well and good if the train isn't cancelled...
Maybe I should revise my statement to "Northern innovate, if it makes them money and they don't have to invest a penny"

So it was free to implement sales of rovers on TVMs?

The actual hardware may not be the best, but the team behind the TVMs actually do work very hard to improve them. As shown by some of the suggestions from this forum being implemented, such as Quick Buy for those who don't need to use the journey planner.

They managed it with the staff family & friends tickets. I assume a similar approach could work just as well for complimentary tickets if there was a desire to deliver it..

Listen, I know the teams on the ground and at HQ work hard to get the best out of what they have got. It's more a criticism levelled at the DaFT for their lack of investment in the company.
