What do you make of this? It's coming up on 'Journey Check' that the 1947 Barrow - Airport will not be calling at Wigan North Western due to shortage of a train crew. What does that mean, do you think? Available crew sign via Bolton, but not via Wigan? Time will tell. There's nothing untoward showing on RTT at the moment.

The said train does appear to have gone via Bolton.

Fair enough if it was planned a long time ago for the 170s to go on those services which is probably why I've not heard of it before and I only know of the recent plans for the 170s (by that I mean the plan as of the May 2019 timetable change)

It was that long ago the plan was to go to Southport with them. Not Wigan!

Not sure what has gone wrong; Wigan driver (who definitely should know Wigan North Western) and a Blackpool guard, so either the Blackpool guard doesn’t sign Wigan & Golborne or its being cross-covered by another depot (Driver or guard that is)

An additional cancellation today of 195-diagrammed journeys are 2016 Liverpool - Airport and 2151 return.

Another cancellation on Liverpool - Airport (although not on a 195 diagram, to my knowledge) is of the 2216 ex-Liverpool.

I remember that they were planned to be used on Leeds to Southport services before that plan got scrapped in favour of the plan to use them on sheffield to Bridlington services

A Manchester Victoria driver was sent to Preston for a 195 so I suspect it could've been that unless it was another for NH empty. Victoria don't sign Golborne so that would explain Chorley.

That sounds extremely plausible, especially since, on a Sunday night, there aren't any regular 195 Preston to Newton Heath movements. (The 1851 ex-Barrow goes back to Barrow on the front of the 1933 ex-Airport - what a comical manoeuvre at Preston!)

EDIT: I should add, the above applies if the 1851 actually operates, which doesn't seem all that often. With another service only 56 minutes behind, and being one-way only, it's a prime candidate for the chop. It got cancelled last night.

Does anyone know if any 195s have appeared on the York - Blackpool service today?

York Press thought they were!
I think they may have been confused by Northern Press releases stating that :
1) Blackpool would be served by new trains from 9 Sep
2) Yorkshire would be served by further new trains from 9 Sep
3) York - Blackpool is one of the routes to be served by new trains
However, 1) and 2j don’t actually imply that York - Blackpool would be served by new trains from 9 Sep !

Odd this morning - 1H40 0337 Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport was 195124 - the return working 1F90 0551 Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street is 195114+195124. Unfortunately the empty working from Newton Heath was delayed resulting in late departure. Not sure what happens with the later working that normally goes into platform 5 at Oxford Road.

Also 195122 1C50 0522 Manchester Airport to Barrow-in-Furness.

RTT gives 5F90 as arriving at the airport 7L, but 1F90 departing 15L, so there's presumably more to the situation than 5F90 arriving late.

It may be that 195114 has made the journey from Newton Heath in order to correct an existing imbalance, and that the two units will get separated on arrival at Lime Street, we'll soon find out. There's nothing showing to that effect on RTT at the moment.

I see that the predicted arrival time at Lime Street for 1F90 is currently 0725, but the following 0709 to Oxford Road still showing as an anticipated on-time departure.

EDIT: The 0559 ex-Airport (Chat Moss stopper) was despatched 4L at 0603, ahead of 1F90, so there must have been some impediment to 1F90 leaving, even at 0603. (Waiting for a crew member?)

Yes, coupling wasn't quick and it was a while before the driver set up at the front and doors were open - also 142038 on 2F15 0542 Wilmslow to Liverpool Lime Street was allowed to go from the Airport first.

Oops! My edit & your second post crossed.

Pacer on a Chat Moss stopper, that hasn't happened recently (to my knowledge).

In my last post, meant 5F90 arriving late.

No, on reflection, that doesn't make sense, since arrival at Lime Street would have been later than all diesel diagrams (195 and non-195) were up & running. Trouble is, nothing else makes much sense either, but 195124 looks to be on its way to Oxford Road (behind the 0719 stopper!), whether it's got 195114 on the back, or not.

According to 'Journey Check', the 0719 stopper is short-formed at two carriages, so it will be picking up, not only its own passengers, but also those who intended to catch the 0709 semi-fast - all on a two-car Pacer/Sprinter. Northern certainly seem to know how to make a mess of things.

The 0719 stopper is now going to run non-stop Birchwood to Deansgate due to 'overcrowding'.
Back to 195s, the 0748 Wilmslow - Liverpool is short-formed, presumably of a single 195/1.

According to RTT, the stopper has gone into P3 at Oxford Road (which is its booked platform). If the semi-fast is still a six-car formation it won't fit in P5, so I imagine it will be going into P1 (if it fits). It seems to have been stood at Cornbrook Junction since 0823.

EDIT: It seems I was a bit premature to say that the stopper had gone into P3 at Oxford Road, it's actually gone into P5, so the double 195/1 (if that's what it is) will presumably go into P3.

EDIT 2: Whatever the formation is, it has indeed gone into P3.

EDIT 3: The semi-fast doesn't appear to have picked up any of the stopper's missed calls (other than Irlam, where it's scheduled to call anyway).

That's not great is it - although it may be that 195s can't stop at the smaller stations - ironically the signaller held the stopper at Cornbrook so the 195 still arrived over 30 minutes late.

I still think that the 0709 ex-Lime Street was formed of 195124+195114, had it been a single 195/1 there would have been no point in diverting it into P3 at Oxford Road. Whatever it is, it has now departed P2 at 0921, 9L. So it has been somewhere else in between (which was apparent anyway, since two trains passed through P3 not long after the semi-fast's arrival).

You are correct - 195114+195124 were on the 0709 to Oxford Road

195001 on its own on the 0816 etc

195116 the other.

1116 Liverpool - Airport and 1250 return have been cancelled (driver shortage); the 1316/1450 are also booked to get the chop, same reason. It looks (from RTT) that 195114 (which I reckon is currently sat in P8 at Lime Street) is going to double up the 1516 departure.
'Journey Check' has been saying, all day up to now, that the 1516/1645 will be formed of two coaches instead of four, which doesn't make any sense at all, to me, I'm afraid.

2 car 195007 is operating solo on 1C52 0929 Manchester Airport to Barrow

So we have a 195/0 (seating 124) operating a diagram, which, prior to the '195 revolution', would have been covered by a 156 (min 140 seats), a two-car 158 (min 138 seats), or a three-car 158 (c.204 seats).
Three-car 331/0s are beginning to replace four-car 319s on Liverpool - Blackpool, and bringing an even more disproportionate reduction in seating capacity.
Such is progress.

The 1616/1750 and 1915/2047 were also cancelled.

It looks (from RTT) that 195114 (which I reckon is currently sat in P8 at Lime Street) is going to double up the 1516 departure.

It did indeed double up with 195116 to operate the 1516 ex-Lime Street and 1645 ex-Airport. It then went ECS to Preston Croft Street sidings, as per the standard diagram.

Journey Check' has been saying, all day up to now, that the 1516/1645 will be formed of two coaches instead of four, which doesn't make any sense at all, to me, I'm afraid.

I can only think that the intention was to say that the diagram 195001 was covering was going to be short-formed, but I don't think it was ever intended that it would finish up on the 1516 departure, nor would that be the departure that 195001/007 are scheduled to do.

195001 on its own on the 0816 etc

I'm afraid that the 'etc' only amounted to the 0949 return. The 1116 and return were cancelled, then the 1416 onwards were covered by 195124, whose own 1316, 1616, and 1915 were cancelled. As far as I can see, 195001 remained in P7 at Lime Street from 1106 yesterday to 0337 this morning, when it did the 0337 Airport.

195116 the other.

And which seems to have remained on the diagram for the rest of the day, including going ECS Airport - Newton Heath at close (and being part of a double, from Victoria).

Can anyone say if 195001 has continued, on its own, on Liverpool - Airport today (Wednesday)?

'Journey Check' indicates that it has indeed. If the 'other' 195/0, 195007, continues on the duty it has been reported on, it should finish at Newton Heath. So there's every chance that 195001/007 will be back together tomorrow.

EDIT: They should be together by c.0030 tonight. (5J47 arrives Victoria 0025, should couple to 5J25, arrives 0029).

Following things through on RTT it would appear that 195001 was taken off the last Airport last night (replaced by what I now not) and instead retained at Lime Street in order to work the 0337 Airport this morning, with, I would guess, 195007 coming solo from Newton Heath.
