Northern Class 155 lighting

Went on a Northern 155 yesterday. Lack of legroom aside it's not a terrible job but for one thing - an extremely bright LED tube in the bulkhead mounted light fitting that glares throughout the coach, which is horribly distracting and ruins the ambiance which as a result is like a building site temporary lighting setup.

Why has this been done? It really ruins what is quite a good job.

So, the person who designed the interior not only had no legs but was partially sighted too. Class 155s rust buckets truly horrid things. They should never have wasted money on them

Exactly the same on a refurbished 150 I went on a couple of weeks ago!

Blinding fluorescent tube lighting with no covers, made worse when it's dark outside.

I went on a refurbished 156 last week with the same lighting with no covers, but for some reason it wasn't as bad as on the 150.

Here here. They’re awful things although with all the chaos at northern fail. I’ll take one over nothing.

Yeah the 153s are pieces of crap too! Both should be consigned to the scrap heap along with the Pacers!

I'd rather have a 153 with it's reasonably comfortable seating than a modern EMU with ironing boards. Worst seats are in the cabs!

The Chapman seat (which isn't the original, they were built with the same Ashbourne seating as ScotRail's 156s still have) is pretty good, but the pitch is inhuman. But that lighting (and it's only one light on an end bulkhead, but as bright as a large halogen floodlight) really ruins a refurb that does make the best of a rusting piece of British Leyland scrap metal.

I don't think those seats would be that bad on longer distance services but you raise a good point on the bright lighting, especially when twinned with the white interior as on a couple of units. Cue Roy-Orbison style sunglasses being required just to open the eyes at no.2 end.

Whoever did the refurb earlier this year on the two WMT units went berserk with the white spray can. Really are starting to show the muck and marks up now though after a few months.

Would love to preserve a unit or two when their time is up. Ill supply the tape when maintenance is needed
