Northern cancelled train!

Quick Q regarding a journey I'm going to be making this coming sat. Basically ~2 weeks ago I bought an advance from Cleethorpes - London with my validity being taking the 1253 from Retford to London. Well, Northern since buying the ticket have decided they want to run a bus from Clee to Ret, which obviously doesn't run at to the time of my original train.

So...basically as the whole of the original point of starting my journey is messed up. As this is not my fault and the ticket was originally bought because the departing and arriving time was convenient to me does this essentially mean I can take any train loosely based around my original departure regardless of the restriction on the section with East Coast?

If it's EC + connections with only a suggested service from Cleethorpes you probably can take a different train. It's a good idea to clarify it, though, or perhaps you cna get the ticklet endorsed at Cleethorpes, you might have only found out when you arrived at the station!

If at all possible, take a print-out of your itinerary with you, so that if you end up on something later than the 1253 from Retford to London you are able to demonstrate that the delay has been caused by the replacement of a train with a differently timed bus after the contract was made between you and the train companies.

I'm going to make a very large assumption here, but I think the connecting train from Cleethorpes to Retford is the Saturdays only service from Cleethorpes to Sheffield via Brigg.

As there is only 3 trains each way on a Saturday on that route, they are widely spread out, so taking an earlier train on that route isn't an option.

However, as it is an EC + Connections ticket, the connections leg usually isn't reserved, so your free to take to TPE service to Doncaster and get yourself to Retford from there, perhaps even on the train your booked on from Retford.

If you get the 10:28 TPE from Cleethorpes to Doncaster and change onto the 12:38 from Donny, it's exactly the same train as you'd be catching from Retford (dep Retford 12:53).

do you want to arrive 'on time' into london or do you want to leave at roughly the booked time? either should be accepted

Well in response, nobody checked my ticket, so everything worked out fine anyway
