I have got a advance ticket booked with Northern for train between Macclesfield and Man picc for this thursday but its not a strike day and end of last week got a email from them telling me they have cancelled the train(all trains on them cancelled between Macclesfield and Man picc that day).

so in email it tells me that i can use it on the next service with them but they have no trains running that day.

so can i get on a Cross Country or Avanti train using the ticket as Northern have not worded the email very clear on if i can or not?

Northern should be arranging ticket acceptance on XC or Avanti. Unfortunately I fear it's likely they'd (wrongly) tell you you have to buy a new ticket to travel on Thursday.

As you would otherwise be stranded, XC and Avanti are obliged to help you out - but in practice, that may mean being (wrongly) forced to buy a new ticket and then reclaiming the cost.

The lack of ticket acceptance - which should absolutely be in place given the level of disruption being caused by the strikes - is, in my view, one of the worst things about the industry's response to the strikes.
