Rest day agreements are in place but very few people are prepared to work because of the cancellations and abuse that they get from passengers.
Given that today there are presently zero traincrew related cancellations, this is hard to believe. There were 100+ per day before the driver RDW.

January always has less train crew related cancellations than before xmas. Fewer people want daily leave, and booked weekly leave for drivers hasn't started yet at many depots.

Indeed.

It’s also true that more crew will tend to make themselves available for rest day work in Jan, with Xmas bills hitting doormats, and generally less to occupy them outside of work than in December!

Several from mid-afternoon on Manchester-Southport, stock running ECS which would probably means short of conductors.

Manchester to Southport is just a joke now. The level and last minute nature of the cancellations is wild. They should be making it free until they can get their act together.

Crazy expensive in some parts too. £9.80 one way between Wigan and Southport, for a just over half an hour journey. No such thing as Advances on this flow either. No Off Peak singles, first Off Peak Day Return is 10:05 from Southport. No period returns so if you're coming back the next day it's nearly £20. They have a captive customer base as the bus takes nearly two hours.

It's the same for many journeys that cross a PTE boundary. The one positive for these kind of journeys is there's no confusing afternoon Off Peak restrictions.

Indeed. And in the case of Wigan to Southport, it crosses two PTE boundaries. Wigan - Appley Bridge is within Greater Manchester, and Southport to Meols Cop is within Merseyside, with Lancashire keeping these two bodies apart.

And that's something that Transport For The North should be doing more about - if they want to be a serious regional organisation for northern England, they need to help break down this siloed approach. For example, Hebden Bridge is pretty much equidistant from Leeds and Manchester; a ticket to Leeds should cost about the same as one to Manchester. A line on a map shouldn't make such a massive difference

Ultimately this is beyond the scope of individual PTE's and can only be resolved through central government funding of the railway.

TftN should be leading on it. Yes, they can’t resolve the funding part themselves, but they should be doing more to get the north’s transport infrastructure viewed and managed as a regional entity not a series of disparate entities

Indeed, same as Wigan-Kirkby since 1977 which has resulted in such a poor service as Lancashire do 'nowt'.

That's before you get to 769 issues

Or, are these all generally OK now?

Now back to 6 diagrams out of 8. This week have had 6 out each day, any problems/cancellations have appeared to be train crew (mainly conductor) non-availability.
