Received an e-mail from Northern today inviting me to an assessment day next week at a hotel in Manchester. Absolutely over the moon to have made it this far!!

Has anybody else received the nod regarding the recent applications for Liverpool/Manchester/Wigan?

Also, I understand that they use the paper version of the GB test and the reaction test which is available on this forum is very similar if not the same to the actual test which is great for getting a good heads up but does anybody know for sure if they use the MT4.1 or MT4.2 test for the mechanical assessments?

I may be posting a few more questions this week as I get my head buried in some much needy revision :p

Cheers all

Congratulations Neil!!!! You should be very proud of yourself to have got this far - hope it all goes well at the assessment day.

I've also had some great news today - I've been invited to a managers interview at Sheffield next Tuesday - I am now bricking it!!:D

Might need to pick your brains if you don't mind Neil?;)

Also - does anyone have any experience of how flexible Northern are with re-arranging dates/times for interviews? Got a late afternoon time but working evenings that week so would love a morning time. Too fussy or what?

Seems I've got one on Wednesday (lunchtime, also at Sheffield), but I too would prefer to change time. Not a hope I'm even asking unless I know they're amenable, but as I'm sitting in for my gaffer whilst he's on holiday this week and next, it's going to get me in trouble taking Wednesday off. I'm saying nothing, going to go in and work on Sunday instead, hopefully as long as I've got everything done, and on time, they'll be ok with it. Could always go in on Wednesday evening for a couple of hours as well I suppose. Will ask if it's ok tomorrow, but won't be telling them why...

Well as suspected I've just received my rejection email after the interview, a little disappointed but not surprised, I should have done much better. My plan will be to take the assessments in the new year and take it from there. Good luck to those still in the running and everyone else trying.

Bad luck mate - keep your chin up and don't let it get you down. at least you made it to the interview - hundreds of others haven't so you must have done something right to get that far.

At least next time you'll be fully prepared with what to expect and what they expect of you.

Good luck with the assessments if thats what you decide!

Dan mate, i'm gutted for you.

I echo Bobs sentiment and good advice. You now know that your examples / application form is good enough to get your foot in the door so with the experience from this last interview you can push on and give it the 'hard sell' next time round.

Best of luck with the private assessments.

Just had my interview at Sheffield. Think it went well, but not counting any chickens. Over-ran by 20 mins, is that a good or bad sign?

Two friendly blokes doing the interviewing - didn't make it any less nerve wracking though!!

Came out feeling good - but as the hours pass I think of more and more things that I wanted to mention / talk about!
Oh well, if the news is bad - at least I've got the experience under my belt to make a better job of it next time.

Good luck to everyone!

I think everyone feels like that after an interview bob! I'm sure you'll be fine and like you say its a great experience if you haven't quite made it!
Fingers crossed for you though!

Cheers Paul - it was almost enjoyable in a sadistic kinda way. I think if anything I actually managed to relax too much as the chaps there were so laid back. They lulled me into a false sense of security!

No news for you yet?

Hi Bob

It sounds like you had the same interviewers as me, they were so laid back they were horizontal.
I feel the same as you, maybe i was too relaxed. Felt like i gave good answers to everything and was in there ages though.
They told me they were interviewing all week and would likely be 7 working days after the last interview before people hear anything. Then hopefully onto the dreaded assessments!

The invite off HR stated 10-14 days before any decisions made - and to be fair they have kept to the timescales thus far with my appliacation (unlike some other company I could mention!;)).
But the Driver Manager reckoned they'd have to get a wiggle on as they hope to start the courses in January, and so they need to get people assessed and medicals done ASAP.
Have you applied for any of these up here Paul? They genuinely seemed a decent lot to work for.

Yeh they sound like it. I wanted to apply but didn't get past the first part with living under 60mins from depot. I would of relocated if successful! I guess they do it to keep the numbers down!

The lad after me should have been in at 1330, I didn't get out till 1350. That said, I was only in for an hour and twenty so less time than you. The gent taking the notes was cursing my in-depth answers though!

Told me they were interviewing until Friday, and that we should hear by the end of next week, or possibly very early the week after. As bob hope says, if the course is going to start in January (and I don't know about everyone, but I'd need to give a month's notice - although at a push I could possibly squeeze a fortnight's holiday in), they're going to have to get through the remainder rather sharp if they want to be up and running by even the end of January.

So if it's going to happen, it's going to happen mighty quick...

I believe my colleague`s mate had interview for Skipton earlier this week, although i`m noe entirely sure. As Skipton is basically Leeds` satellite depo and there were interviews for Leeds earlier this week, I would imagine, it could have been last week or next one.

Received an email today regarding the Leeds Driver Role from Northern saying that I've progressed to the full driver assessment stage. To say I'm surprised is an understatement as I didn't think I'd performed that well at interview.

I didn't think HR worked on Saturday but I'm not complaining. Good luck everyone still waiting to hear.

Hi. In regards to Northern allocating places does anyone know if you can only be offered a job at the station you applied for? I ask because I was wondering if I passed my assessment for Liverpool and scored top out of the other candidates, but a candidate for Manchester missed out on a spot there yet scored higher than me, would they be offered the chance of Liverpool? Thanks, H.

Chuffed to bits - passed the managers interview and have been invited to Leeds for full assessment next week!

Surprised but over the moon - thought I hadn't performed to my best at the interview in Sheffield - but must have said something right:lol:

Good luck to all those others waiting for news.
