Still not heard a sausage about the Manchester Position. :(

The E-mail reply, dated 2nd November, stated that I'll receive an update within four weeks so I know there are a few weeks left.

However its not looking too promising if there are people who applied for the same position at the same time getting an interview next week.

My online status just shows 'Visual Comparison Test Complete'. :|
I'm in the same position as you Eduardo, but I'm waiting to hear about Wigan. Some people have dates for interviews next week, some have also had rejections. I'm feeling very anxious and unsure what to think at the moment. I thought I was obsessively checking my emails last week, but the last few days its just been an utter distraction and ridiculous!

Hi TT,

I suppose no news is good news. ;)

This forum is an excellent source of information on the application process and also provides us with contact with other candidates in the same position.

Judging by the invites for one or two next week does not inspire me with hope. :(

I'd just like to know either way as I'm also checking my e-mails via my iPhone approximately every 46 seconds. :D:D

Oh well. Fingers crossed.

Only every 46 seconds? I admire your calmness, be sure to mention this in any interview ;)

I'm an internal applicant but seemingly in the same pool. I believe all applicants for the Wigan vacancy have been advised of an outcome (mine was a no). If you've not got an outcome I would be tempted to ring/email to check your status.

I withdrew my Wigan driver application but left my Wigan conductor application in but not heard anything back yet. To be honest I would prefer a Manchester role as I live in Darwen and it is a straight journey into Manchester and no change overs.

Im keeping me fingers crossed and hopefully we should get to know one way or the other soon enough.

I'm in the same boat, waiting for Wigan. As the interview is on Monday I'm not holding much hope.... However Northern are usually very good at informing candidates one way or another....

Hi Sammy, have you tried contacting H.R?

If it's true what 156441 said (and I am not doubting his internal knowledge for one minute) then I'd be chasing the situation up as like you say Northern are usually very good at informing you one way or t'other.

I've got an interview on Monday morning. I've no idea how many vacancies are available or how many people are to be interviewed but I'd have thought there'd be more than one (me)!!

Anyway I'll try and find out as much as I can and keep you all posted of developments.

I emailed them first thing this morning and was told "not successful" about 11pm although my status still says "visual comparison test complete"
Ah well maybe next time.

NB - the below is for guidance only and shouldn't be relied on!

OK, not been around the forums for a while as things are a bit hectic but AFAIK there are 2 regions, East and West. Now not 100% sure, but think West covers Liverpool, Wigan, Man Picc, Buxton, Blackpool, East being Hull, Huddersfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster etc.

Internal staff already earning more than the training rate retain their current rate of pay e.g. guards are paid in the mid £20,000s, people off the street somewhere around £19,000.

It IS possible to swap shifts e.g. if 1 person prefers mornings and 1 prefers afters then they can pretty much do a permanent swap, but this depends on how many people are in the "link". i.e. an odd number would make it difficult, an even number should be fairly easy.

Morning starts within the same week could range from 4am to 8am depending on depot so a 4am start on Monday, 6 am on Tuesday, 8am on Wednesday, 5am on Thursday ... (you get the idea) and this can mess your body clock up a little, but there is 12 hours between swipe off and swipe on.

This time last year there were reportedly around 650 applicants per vacancy (word of mouth from a member of office staff) so competition is fierce.

Best of luck to you all!

Hi All,

My first post here, but I've been reading a fare bit.

I have an interview next week for the Man Picc job, I'm so excited I have almost a week to prepare, good luck to anyone else who is there.

Didn't get an interview.

Strange really, got through to the last 40 or so with FTPE out of god knows how many thousands.

Yet Northern seemed to have paper sifted me.

Oh well, its their loss. :D

This really is a lottery.

Back to the drawing board and a patient wait until the next lot of vacancies

Nope, not at all. I stuck an app in for this one (Live in Lincolnshire) as I wasn't overly confident with my FTPE interview and thought I would try to cover my bases.

Just had the call today from FTPE......I've been provisionally offered a position pending medical.

To say I was ecstatic would not do my feelings justice at all :D

I will be removing my Northern app shortly....so good luck....I guess some of your competition has just fallen out ! ;)

Best regards
Lanc

Congrats!

Still heard nothing about my Hull app though...

Well thats my interview done and dusted.

Went pretty well (I think) but I'm definately trying to surpress my hopes and expectations just in case the journey ends here. I'm having some flashbacks from the interview now and thinking 'why didn't I say this / why didn't I say that'? Still, I only have to wait 7 days for the result so I'll keep practising my dots and reactions just in case.....

For anybody else going to their interviews this week good luck and just stay calm :D

Is there anyone else on here who is still waiting to attend the interview at Piccadilly? I was advised that they were interviewing last week and one day this week which I presume is today, so fingers crossed we will hear something quite soon. Thinking back to some of my answers, I'm not sure I will have done enough, but I suppose I'll soon find out for sure.

Just had an email off Northern to attend interview next week. Any one else heard anything? Also, does anyone know if Northern use the computer or paper Group Bourdon test? I passed everything for FTPE (infact got an email last week saying that they were "still awaiting a decision from the hiring manager" which i believe may be code for "waiting to see if anyone fails their medical") but reading some threads on this forum I see that some TOCs make you retake the GB test if they use a different format of test.

It's the big paper one for Northern.

Cheers Silv, appreciate that. Makes this interview massive then as it was the paper one for FTPE also. I shall start the prep now!

Received an e-mail from Northern today inviting me to an assessment day next week at a hotel in Manchester. Absolutely over the moon to have made it this far!!

Has anybody else received the nod regarding the recent applications for Liverpool/Manchester/Wigan?

Also, I understand that they use the paper version of the GB test and the reaction test which is available on this forum is very similar if not the same to the actual test which is great for getting a good heads up but does anybody know for sure if they use the MT4.1 or MT4.2 test for the mechanical assessments?

I may be posting a few more questions this week as I get my head buried in some much needy revision :p

Cheers all

Well done mate, all the best. Nothing for me yet, although I have a sneaky feeling that I may receive a no tomorrow.
