The 1204 from Ulverston (1146 from Barrow) should be a 158. Couldn't say whether 2-car or 3-car, though.

Mathew S reported to the 'Northern timetable changes May 2019' thread on Thursday 23 May that he had travelled on a 3-car 158 on the 0647 service ex-Barrow that morning.

Well, contrary to expectations, well done Northern. A 3-car 158 on the 0823 Wigan NW - Manchester Piccadilly turns out to be perfect. Enough seats for everyone (there were actually some empty seats the whole way to Manchester this morning) and a much more pleasant experience all round than a 319.
I'm impressed. If they can keep it running to time(ish) then this will be an excellent move.

Do Northern consider this scheduling stated above to be meeting the expected loadings on the services they are scheduled to run upon?

There is more than one 3-car worked diagram in reality though. In fact, every service I've caught on the Airport - Barrow/Windermere route since the timetable change has been a 3 car 158 (other than the 2210 Airport - Barrow, which is always a 2-car 158 and has been since May 2018).
Significantly, both the 0823 from Wigan - Manchester and and 1548 Piccadilly - Wigan have been 3-car units, and they are not the same diagram.

They are enough, just. The 0723 Wigan - Manchester and the 1548 Piccadilly - Wigan have been full and standing between Oxford Road and Wigan, but not intolerable. The rest of the day, 3-car 158s seem to be ample.

No, Northern are no longer using any 185s, so you won't find any on the Barrow services anymore.
