Are Northern short of available 153s at the moment only for the second day running there's a diagram on Clitheroe line that's normally booked for a 3 car unit that today is running as a 2 car unit instead
There's also a Leeds-Nottingham diagram running as 3 cars instead of 2 so it might be if the 3 car 158s are on the wrong diagrams then a 153 has been nabbed to tag on to a 2 car 158.

I've been using this myself all week. It's rather unusual though in that it's been formed of two 153s coupled together, rather than losing the 153 and it only being formed of a 150, which is what normally happens when Newton Heath find themselves stuck for stock. One of the units has been the refurbed 153316 John "Longitude" Harrison - coupled to an unrefurbed unit, allowing a very easy 'compare and contrast' exercise!
Another peak Blackburn-Manchester was short formed today (don't know whether it came through from Clitheroe or not) as 2 vice 3. Longitude was also knocking about on the line this evening, coupled with a 150.
