Hi,

Was this stretch of the ECML quadrupled at one time. Looking from the over bridge at Entercommon the cutting there appears to be wide enough to take 4 tracks.

Thanks Mike

There appear to have been loops, probably goods only, between just north of Cowton station and just south of Eryholme Junction. I suspect that they were put in around 1912 due to incomplete rendition on maps from those years.

There were also Up and Down loops between Castle Hills junction and Wiske Moor. Part of the Down loop still exists to provide access to the Redmire branch but the rest of these were removed sometime in the mid 1980s. As far as I am aware there were never 4 tracks between Wiske Moor and Cowton as the infrastructure between those locations does not allow for four tracks.
