Northallerton - Platforms on the Teesside spur?

From a browsing session on Google Maps, I notice Northallerton just has the two platforms on the mainline. I just presumed that the line diverged on the flat to the North of the station. However, to the west of the station it looks to me that it is possible to fit platforms on the Teesside lines.

Has this been proposed before? Were there platforms in this area? Would there be any benefit in moving Teesside services stopping at Northallerton off the ECML at this location?

I've used the search feature and not seen an exact thread on this topic recently.

From purely the point of view of making the best of the infrastructure and minimising delays and conflicts, then yes I would absolutely think this is a fantastic idea.

But could an affordable solution be implemented that would not have a disproportionately adverse effect on passengers using the station?

The station car park would currently be in the middle of both sets of platforms so I'm not sure where the problem would be for passengers using it would be...?

Downside of sending extra trains via the Low Level lines is extra train movements over the level crossing down there - a crossing that it's difficult to do anything sensible about.

I didn't spot the level crossings. That does make my suggestion much harder to implemement. Oh well.

I'm not sure there would be space. Between the main line and the freight line there are new(ish) build flats which have taken most of the space between the two. That makes building platforms and especially walkways etc. to/from those platforms more complicated than it once was.
