North Yorkshire Moores Spring Gala

Hello.

In an attempt to increase the amount of trains I have seen from 4 I thought about going to the North Yorkshire Moores Spring Gala. Do many of you go to it?

I saw pictures on flickr and their website of the spring one and thought it looked really good. Is it normally quite busy? I saw on their website they had a lot of engines in for restoration, but that they had engines that visited.

I would like to see one of the nice red ones.

I would be traveling down from Aberdeen so would be finding a hotel or B&B for 3 nights.

Is there like a guide or something for the best spots along the train line to take pictures from, or is it best to just drive along the track and look for other photographers heh I liked the pictures taken from the stations with the old buildings in the background, they looked nice, but I would probably like to take pictures along the route as well.

Is it worth going down for all 3 days do you think or would 1/2 do?

Any info on it would be greatly appreciated

I haven't been to the gala myself, but I've been to the railway on 'normal' weekends. It is a good trip out for the day, plenty to do if you stop of at some of the stations in the middle and have a look around. What I did was go all the way from Pickering to Grosmont, get the train to Whitby and back. I could quite happily enjoy a few days in the area, although I think that would be the limit. 2-3 days should be enough to see everything that you want.

Just a general word of warning, I'd book early for B+Bs as they are likely to go fast.
