Well we had a good week.No problems hardly any delays, none of any note.
Went to Windermere and back on Monday on 185`s which were the best units of the week I feel.
On tuesday visited Hebden Bridge on a 158 and then onto Rochdale by 155. As suggested then went on the Oldham Loop and onto Manchester by 142`s.
Visited Dewsbury market on Wednesday by 185 then onto Leeds. Then went to Morecombe not a great trip on a 142. Then moved onto Blackpool before returning home. Saw some 180 units in Blackpool which look stylish but didnt get to travel on one, what are they like?
On Thursday visited Chester changing at Wigan and Warrington doing the last leg on a 175 about the same as a 185?We then moved onto Liverpool before returning to Euxton by 156
On Friday off to Barrow by 185 changing to a 156 to Maryport. Cameback the same way direct to Preston by 156. This trip around the Cumbrian coast must take some beating, can anyone think of any other better trips? The views are not over in 5 mins the scenery is excellent for over an hour and especially at high tide there are lots of birds to see. Dont think I have ever seen as many cormorants in one group before.
On Saturday it was upto Carlisle by 185 and then the run over the Settle Carlisle to Leeds by153 visiting the great market there. Returned via Manchester on 153 and 150.
On our last day went to Liverpool got a seat ok but it was only a 2 unit train which got full as Everton were at home. I think some people were unable to get aboard. Travelled by 156.
Great value for £70.
Also in the last few days had a couple of days at Fort William had booked singles and on the way back were routed from Glasgow to Carlisle via Kilmarnock and Dumfries, a little long winded but a pleasant trip.
Got that journey for a total of £55 return.
No real gripes. Conducters all polite but some mainly Northern Rail seem as always reluctant to do their job in checking tickets and ignoring people with feet on seats.
On later trains there seems to be no effort to check at all.
Are conducters allowed to travel with the driver? One did from Preston To Euxton and at first when we got off was only looking out of the drivers window!
