No problems using the North West Rover on Merseyrail. I have used the 7 Day version on numerous occasions. I found the staff at Southport and Liverpool Central very friendly towards me when they saw my ticket, and one of them at Southport even wanted to know where I had travelled. That was in complete contrast to Blackpool North, where I was staying with friends for the week. There, because for a whole week my ticket wouldn’t go through the barrier, I was at times almost treated like a fare avoiding criminal. Lots of other threads about staff at Blackpool North so I will leave it at that.

As others have said, this ticket is certainly valid for travel on Merseyrail services. One note of caution - don't expect it to operate the automatic barriers, almost anywhere throughout its validity! I've had several, and Manchester Victoria is one of the very rare places where the ticket DOES work correctly.

Yes I echo those sentiments I myself have done the Freedom Of The North West Rover many times and it’s incredibly annoying that they seem to work fine with the barriers on the Mersey rail network but rarely work at most stations which northern trains serve including Leeds, Bradford , Blackburn , Bolton the list goes on
