North Wales Rover ticket question

Sorry if this has been covered before

what is the issue with the ffestiniog railway, do i have to pay extra, because im sure i read that you had to, but it states that it allowes me to have 1 single journey on the ffestioiog.

The North Wales Rover does not cover travel on the Ffestiniog but from memory offers some form of dicount. can i get on and off at any station i want or is there a limit, i am aware of the last trains home aswell.

if you mean the Ffestiniog Round Robin then yes, you can get on and off as you please. Whether you have enough spare time to do it is another matter!

I think i'll stick to the north wales rover as i only intend to go to cambrian line towns.

I have chosen to visit Barmouth, Machynlleth and Newtown.

im not going any further up than barmouth, I went to welshpool last october, so i dont need to go there. Ive never been to Machynlleth or Newtown, and i last went to barmouth about 10 years ago with family, im 21 now, haha.

I hope ive picked the right places, please inform me if there is nothing to do in those 2 towns ive never been to.

Machynlleth is pleasant enough for a wander round - clock tower, walled church yard, little modern art museum - but there's not a massive amount to do. It depends what kind of thing you're looking for: there is Owain Glyndwr's parliament house that you might want to call by. You could take the bus up the valley and find the Centre for Alternative Technology (with its water-powered funicular) or the Corris railway.

Barmouth is good for being able to walk the Barmouth bridge if nothing else.

I'm not sure what I would do with 2 hours in Newtown...

You could also consider stopping off at Aberdovey (if it's a nice day - pleasant little harbour town at the mouth of the estuary) or Tywyn (for the Talyllyn railway).

TBH, I would rather go to Tywyn or Aberdyfi than Abermaw. We found Abermaw to be a bit dismal last year, tywyn was far more interesting and Aberdyfi is prettier!

I would definitely recommend a bus to Corris. The craft centre is very nice, and you don't HAVE to buy anything if you think it's expensive, but the woodwork and elather work is brilliant!

I done this rover last year and it was a very good journey and deal, although the problem i found was that the timings were very tight partly due to the fact that i started from Penychain station (near Pwllheli) obviously the Cambrian line doesn't have the most frequent timings and then went in a clockwise direction picking up the Ffestiniog railway from Minffordd.

North Wales Rover no longer covers the FR, but the Freedom of Wales Flexi Pass still does, along with the Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon).
