it just says the number of arrests are down not that crime is lower. I mean if you just go up to them and say naughty boy dont do it again instead of arresting them the figures will look good, but if you arrest everyone that deserves it the figures would look shocking, but hey dont let the truth get in the way as long as the figures look good. :roll:

Also, if there is no one to respond to a call, there can't be an arrest! I'm sure half the incidents on the railway are not reported to BTP as there is little chance of a response in time to apprehend the culprits!

I'm not sure that the number of arrests being down 30% necessarily means the number of crimes will be down 30% - lets face it some repeat offenders are going to be responsible for a disproportionate number of all crimes (a non-railway story in today's Guardian claimed 2% of offenders were responsible for 30% of crime in an area).

The real story is never as simple as a local newspaper portrays it
