Thank you for informing me about the gaps I'd missed on the map, thinking about it I could have also coloured in the line from Reading to Wokingham.

I will not bother updating the plan just yet as it gives a pretty good idea of the extent of XC electrification.

Yeah its a very good map that shows clearly the logical steps needs to make XC an majority EMU route. Little bits and Bournemouth Edinburgh is an EMU.

I think if you did Crewe-Holyhead as well as Chester-Warrington BQ you'd actually have a decent business case, as, post-TPX wiring, North Transpennine services could be sent to Holyhead from Manchester-particularly if the proposed increase of Leeds-Manchester services up to 6tph does happen.

Then you'd have 2tph Leeds-Airport, 2tph Leeds-Liverpool and 2tph Leeds-Holyhead.

Would also allow for removal of the existing Holyhead-Piccadilly terminator, and increase fast Chester-Manchester services, allowing more stops to be implemented on the Mid-Cheshire line, as well as potential wiring there out to Crewe via Northwich.

I think that Holyhead sees something like 15% of seats occupied when averaged over a week. So, take a handful of busy ferry services out of the equation and that's a lot of empty seats at other times - can't see a half hourly service west of Bangor working.
