Beware that on hot days in particular there can be long queues for the tram, and the cable car doesn't operate if it's blowing a slight breeze. If time pressured the bus is probably best.

Yes, the fares really are ridiculous

Cable-car : Return £11.00, Single £10.50 (95% of the return fare)

Tramway : Return £11.50, Single £9.85 (86% of the return fare)

I’m pretty certain many folk would like to go up the Great Orme using one mode of transport, then go down using another, but the pricing structures of the two operators make this option very expensive. Why they couldn’t come to some sort of agreement is beyond me .. maybe greed has something to do with it.

Yes, we are big fans of the PlusBus scheme

The bus to the top of the Great Orme would be good, but it only runs every hour .. judging by some of the reviews, an hour up top isn't that great. A friend went up last year, mainly to ride the cable car .. he got to the top, had 5 minutes there and came straight back down again.

Maybe we could take the bus up, then the cable-car down.

Not for me the cable-car, but definitely the tram, saying that, that's cable driven too.
Is there a bus service to the top, any details?
Last time I drove up there about 10 years ago.

For £1.95, a real bargain .. although not as good as the PlusBus in Edinburgh .. bus AND tram travel for £2.95

You could do what I did last week. Caught the bus up but stayed on the same bus and came straight back down.

After Llandudno catch the bus to Conwy and see the town and Castle. Then a short few minutes on the bus to across the bride to Llandudno Junction station to catch your train back to Chester for Liverpool.

After Llandudno catch the bus to Conwy and see the town and Castle. Then a short few minutes on the bus to across the bride to Llandudno Junction station to catch your train back to Chester for Liverpool.

We are going in a couple of weeks, so time to check up on the details

We were planning on taking the train to/from Llandudno so I am sure we would have to start the homeward journey from Llandudno, rather than Llandudno Junction .. or would you idea be OK

Going out .. we would actually be changing at Llandudno Junction.

Maybe I should consider taking the train to/from Llandudno Junction only, then using the bus

Consider train Llandudno Junction to/from Conwy too.
If using bus, be aware that the hourly 27 now goes from the stop on the main road, not platform 5, straight ahead from the station building down the ramp and look right. The 19, random intervals, still uses platform 5.
For the more frequent 5s, walk about 400m west to the stop after the roundabout opposite Lidl.
Or just walk across the bridge, it's not far.

AFAIK the Ffestiniog Round Robin ticket is also valid in virtually all of North Wales, and it's cheaper than a Nth Wales Rover if coming from England. Don't know how the directional restrictions (if there are any) work on the non loop parts e.g. Aberystwyth and Holyhead.

The Ffestiniog RR ticket is for a one-way circuit around the Chester - Blaenau Ffestiniog - Porthmadog - Shrewsbury - Chester loop so I doubt whether you could use it for a simple return journey from Chester to Llandudno Junction, let alone Holyhead.

When I did the loop a few weeks ago, the TfW conductor was instructing a new recruit and he told her to endorse my ticket by writing on the name of station last passed through, in my case Fairbourne. This would prevent any doubling back.

Minus the fact you'd have two coupons... Surely you could just present the other one?
