The track curves out from under the road deck, but the deck supports seem to be placed so as not to encroach on the rail alignment. See the modern images at the bottom of this article on Britannia Bridge station.

Thanks for those - knew I had seen something somewhere!

The track does indeed occupy the whole area under the road as it curves out, but there seems to be room for a second track to curve out further west on the other side of the supporting column. The photos don't show it too well but I think a column may be omitted on the north side to make room for this second track to curve out.
