Hello,

Long time lurker first time poster....

I travel daily in to Paddington on the GWML- over the last week or so I've noticed that the previously well and truely boarded up ex Eurostar depot at North Pole has had its security hoardings removed, and there appears to have been the odd contractor's van knocking about.

I was wondering if anyone here knew what was going on there- has the depot been rented out to another operator? If not, what does the future hold for this depot?

Mr. Sanders: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if she will make a statement on the future of the Eurostar North Pole depot in West London. [183455]

Mr. Tom Harris: The transfer of North Pole Depot to BRB (Residuary) Ltd. was completed on 31 January. BRB (Residuary) Ltd. has been asked to provide a valuation and to dispose of the site. Prior to any disposal, there will be a further check with relevant stakeholders to confirm our initial assessment that there is no further rail use for this site.

BRB (Residuary) Ltd. will be asked to follow established and published guidance in consulting with relevant stakeholders on the disposal of the former Eurostar depot at North Pole. The latest guidance was announced to Parliament on 26 July 2007. Copies of
that guidance are available in the Library of the House and on the BRB (Residuary) Ltd. website at www.brbr.gov.uk.

There was suggstions that Crossrail build / commissioning teams might use it. but that may require demolition of the existing sheds etc.

I thought it was too expensive for CR to use North Pole? And isn't the new depot going to be OOC?

I see a cartain company has rumours inside that they will be using it to store their stock there, but as its inside info, I cannot tell you anymore, sorry

The EWS side of OOC will close and become the Crossrail depot.
EWS aren't moving in to North Pole as it's too expensive to run from what I've heard

What will happen to essential EWS services at OOC like railtour berthing and the breakdown train?

Lets not beat around the bush. That suggests that it is indeed First Great Western.

Either Heathrow Express/Connect, or the Sleepers? Would seem a bit wasteful for the latter, so I'll go with the former, which aren't strictly FGW know, but are run by First Group, and are Electric, unlike everything else out of Paddington

North Pole has a super duper wheel lathe.
Not only does it turn wheels, it electronically measures them entering the depot, eliminating the need for manual measuring.

I have heard an unconfirmed rumour that LaplandRail has approached EPS with a lucrative bid on North Pole depot in order to organise it's European base better. It also intends to re-buy the EPS generator coaches in order to provide enough power to run the new Class 251/2 FMUs for it's once-yearly service.

well news in that I can say as it was some rumour anyway (and cant say the staff name unless they wish to fire the whole of FGW for leaking but as I said its unlikely now)

but it was FGW TV that were going to have it for the Turbos and the wheel lathe would be useful rather than going up to Tyseley for it (which is where they go apparently) but problems and cost with linking the GWML seems very unlikely now
