Non Safety Critical Vacancies

Just looking on the Northern Website and some jobs are safety critical and some non safety critical. I presume that means you need a PTS for the Safety Critical roles and you don't need a PTS for the Non Safety Critical Roles. Been doing a temporary job at Leeds Station has a TPO where they have PTS because its a station. A TPO Job come up at Allerton saying Non Safety Critical. Is this non PTS. I have a safety Depot Card but no PTS

Despatchers are safetey critical at Northern and have to complete the basic PTS training but are not given the card. Suppose it saves the company money and if the unthinkable ever happens you would get a block on the line and go down on the ballast if you had to anyway card or not.

Its the Train Presentation Operatives (Cleaners) Jobs im on about. Just wondering if there safety Critical at Stations and Non Critical at Depots. The one im applying for at Allerton says non critical hence me thinking non PTS

I would of thought it was the other way round, the ones at the station are not safety critical I am certain but the ones at the depot, (well Newton Heath at least) are Safety Critical. I guess it depends on what the facilities are like at Allerton. Newton Heath you have trains moving around while cleaning and no raised platforms to work from as far as I know.

Safety critical doesn't necessarily mean that the job requires the candidate to have PTS training, for example train dispatch on SWT are classified as safety critical but have no PTS training.

You still need PTS card as you may need to walk from the depot to the station , to clean sick from a train in service

Safety critical is self explanatory, any job where the duties involve the safety of the public

Safety Critical is when you are or have the opportunity to effect Network Rail infrastructure...

Working on a station is Safety Critical, mainly because you are working with in 4 foot of running lines... (in this case cleaning a train on a platform).

If you hold a PTS certificate you are then safety critical due to you being expected to communicate with the signaller should the need arise.

If you worked on Allerton depot yes you would only need depot safety certificate however you need to remember these are depot specific so would need a new one if you were to take this job.

Thats my understanding of it anyway but may be wrong...

Some cleaners need PTS if they have to access a yard or siding so some cleaners are Safety Critical. To be fair safety critical is not all about the moment of a train but being in the vicinity of moving trains or controlling moving trains.
