I'm interested to know why an emu should sound like a 1960's dmu. On a 334 this evening every time the power was put on there was noise and vibration like an old dmu engine - up to about 15-20 mph. After that the noise steadied but was still noisy, as if bearings were worn. Once power was off and the unit was coasting at about 30mph then all was smooth. On braking the noise returned and remained right down to walking speed. I'm guessing its regenerative braking through the motors until low speed where friction brakes take over. I think the unit was 008 and had a non-multi 'X' on the front window. Is it an electrical effect or is part of the torque restraint broken?
