travelled today on wcml between hartford and acton bridge southbound.

this is a short section of 4 track rail.

we were moved to the *slow* line for a voyager to pass before back to the *fast* to hartford and beyond :)

the *slow* line/loop is just so noisy. like a loud grinding noise?

i have been on this line before but not often and noticed the same noise.

why is it so damn noisy?

the rails slightly too close(tight)? rust?

any explanatons for this

Probably flange squeal. ie the metal on metal contact noise when the wheel flange moves tightly against the rail.

Any number of reasons, flange contact, railhead needing a bit of grinding. Gauge won't be tight and rust won't cause noise like that. Without knowing what the track geometry and speed is like, it's hard to answer.
