Noise levels on Deep Tube lines

I've been intermittently been taking Bank branch Northern Line trains over the last few years and, to my perception at least, the amount of rail roar and flange squealing has become significantly worse - mostly between Euston and Highgate (ie. through Camden Town).

Anyone else care to comment? I assume other lines have similar issues?

I'd say it was worse than pre-covid, but that's a very unscientific opinion.

I'd say it was worse than pre-covid, but that's a very unscientific opinion.

My understanding is that it is partly down to a particular type of track structure which has been used for the last few years. I have heard it said that this was partly a response to reducing vibration as a result of night tube - the objective of reducing vibration has been achieved, but at the expense of increasing noise.

Flange squeal tends to increase in summer months due to lubrication becoming slightly less effective.

Funnily I took a High Barnet train from Camden Town yesterday, and did notice the bad squealing on that branch in the tunnels
