31289 does look strange, although I'm glad to see its had some attention.
The last time I saw it, at the Northampton & Lamport in 2007 it was in a shocking state.
Congratulations to the people who've obviously worked very hard to get it to the standard its in now.

Definitely, I've not seen it in the flesh but in pictures it looked rough.
Thinking about it, was 31289 ever refurbished? It looks quite original to me with its banding and boiler port etc. There can't be very many unrefurbished ones left.

There are a few unrefurbished ones still around.
As you say, 31289 is one, with I believe 31101 and 31162 as well.
There may be others.

Thanks for that.
It looks a bit like this...

I’d better get these done before 2017 starts!

25/26th October
Days after my trip to the Spa Valley, I was back up in the capitol again. I was on my own and decided I would head out to Foxton and nail all the shacks between there and the Cross on the main line. I didn’t need them all but I would be aiming to plug the gaps.

57605 took me up on the Night Riviera and I headed straight over to the Cross to get my tickets to Foxton. Unsurprisingly, because thats how things work, I got a dud on my outward trip. 321410 was had for the 50 mile journey to Foxton. It was then a small hop to Meldreth on 317338 and 317339 before 365508 took me on to Shepreth.

No winners so far. Bit annoying but half expected. It was a misty morning and took a long time before the sun broke through. 321410 returned and to Royston I went. I popped out of the station here for cup of tea at the nearby spoons. Back at the station my luck finally turned and a winner, two in fact! 365509 and 365532 took me to Ashwell & Morden. 365508 made a reappearance and onto Baldrock I went for my fifth new shack of the day so far. A fill in move back to Ashwell & Morden on winner 365528 before 317338 appeared on it’s own to take me to Letchworth.

365536 was next up and onto the east coast mainline to Hitchin. Behind that 365513 and 365515 were had to Stevenage. A lengthy walk was had here to pop to the two spoons here (one is close but the other isn’t).

Once I was back at the station 317339 for the second time today returned and I went down to Welwyn North. 365528 then took me to Knebworth before 317348 to Hatfield. From here it was to the other Welwyn (Garden City) station on 317340.

It was now onto 313s is I started to hit the more local shacks. 313044 and 313040 took me to Brookmans Park for 313018 to Welham Green. 313024 and 313039 was had to New Southgate and then 313050 to Hadley Wood. Finally 313057 took me to Oakleigh Park to clear all the shacks between the Cross and Hitchin on the East Coast Mainline.

I was (as you can imagine) very bored of dud 313s and 317s and needed to get away from the area. I noticed a bus and jumped on it to Woodside Park. I decided to hit the tube.

I’m not going to list all my moves here but over the next few hours until I needed to head to Paddington I scored 22 tube units, 17 Northern and 5 S7/8s.

43020 and 43005 took me home. I had scored 25 winners in the end and 18 new shacks.

3rd November
My next bash was another trip to London. This time I was not on my own though. 57605 again provided the power away from the West country. Me and Dave split for a while in the morning peak as we were after different things. I headed to the Cross (no winners there) and started to look from some required 365s.

First up 365505 with 365529 was had to Finsbury Park and I returned on 365518. Another wonder around and I spotted 365531. Off to Finsbury Park once more and I noted another 365 in the cross I needed. I could get back in time too. 317348 and 317338 took me back for 365541 to Finsbury Park. I now decided to go down to the Piccadilly line and get back to Kings Cross that way to meet Dave. By the time I got there I had picked up 5 new units (sorry I am in rush to get these written and haven’t got time to list my moves). It was then over to the Northern line and we headed to Angel on the Northern Line. No winners on here until our return to Kings Cross after breakfast.

It was then time to split once more and we arranged to meet at Stratford later. I stayed on the tube and until we met at Stratford I scored 15 tube units (Piccadilly, Central) and 1 DLR unit.

At Stratford we hit the Jubilee. After a while (and nine winners for me) we hit the DLR. We spent longer on here than planned but I scored 13 winners before we headed out to London Bridge. I scored another Jubilee set en route and once at London Bridge I jumped on 387107 and 387102. We split and arranged to meet at East Croydon. I got to East Croydon and having seen what the Uckfield units were behind deiced to get a ticket extension to Hurst Green. 171402, 171727 and 171804 were then had to winning shack Hurst Green.

The return was 171401, 171801 and 171723. I stayed on this to London Bridge (Dave joined at East Croydon) and we then jumped on 376034 and 376036 to Charing Cross.

It was then to Paddington via a couple of pints and Fish and Chips! 43130 and 43003 took us home after what was a very productive day! 55 winners but only one new shack!

8th November
My last bash of 2016! A couple of expensive purchases (one wasn’t planned, a new car! The other a 4k HDR TV, its very nice!) meant I needed to save a few pennies. At the time this wasn’t planned as my last bash but it has turned out to be and luckily it was a brilliant one!

Whilst looking around at some tickets I came across a bargain (well I thought so). £42 PLY to NRW and the return was £36.60! A bit of playing round showed it was the same price there and back just to PAD!

The usual train to London was had, this time 57603 was in charge! It was then 21539 and 21540 for the trek across London! The barriers at Liverpool Street threw a hissy fit at my ticket (but was perfectly valid) but I think thats because technically my journey started 7 minutes before midnight (it was late but the ticket didn’t know that) but I obviously didn’t get to my destination until the next morning.

90012 pushing me to Norwich was next up. It was a good run to Norwich and we arrived on time. In the station was 37422 and 37419 which was my next move. Neither were required but onto Great Yarmouth I went. They seemed more lively than my last visit but the problem with East Anglia is it is flat! Once they have got the train moving, that is it! Either way its still a better way to travel (if a bit cold in the coaches!).

Once back at Norwich it was time for 68002 to Lowestoft! It had been a long time since my last 68 action and was very welcome! I had just enough time for a photo at Lowestoft before 68005 took me back to Norwich!

With those two winners in the book it was now time to find some required 90s! I had a little gen which would help, I just had to hope it produced! First up was 90002 which was waiting when I arrived! I had this to Diss. It was then 90008 back to Norwich where 90007 (had been arriving at Norwich when I left earlier) was waiting. I got on this and had it to Ipswich. I now had a bit of time to wait with nothing on as a fill in before the next train I hoped would be what I wanted.

I went into Ipswich for a pint before heading to the station once more. Would it produce? Yes! 90010, my final GA 90, my final GA train required! This was had to Norwich where I had just over an hour before my train home. I decided a few celebratory pints were needed and into Norwich I went. I hadn’t been into the City centre for a while and found a great brew pub, St. Andrews Brewhouse. Highly recommended.

Back at the station it was time for the trip home. 90009 was had to Norwich. A few hops to get to Paddington saw me get 21089/21090, 21437/21438 and 21379/21380 before 43183 and 43009 took me back to Plymouth.

A very enjoyable day! 5 winning locos and two tube units. Anglia fleet cleared and 922 miles in a single day!

2016 Summary
So that was 2016 and here are some stats!

852 winning trains.
439 new stations.
25,380 miles travelled.
1449 journeys made taking 3 weeks 4 days 22 hours and 32 minutes.
1 day 6 hours and 49 minutes of delay was incurred in that time!
£2,437 was the cost in rail fares which equated to about 10p a mile!

Highlight
No contest! The GBRF 15 Railtour! To be fair most of the year has been good and as always have mostly enjoyed everything I have done!

One thing for sure is I can not wait until 2017 and I finally go on a bash! Will have nearly been 2 months by the time I next get out! Ouch!

Good stuff Noddy, over 25000 miles in a year is pretty impressive. Those three trips looked good especially the locos in East Anglia.
Have a good Christmas

In your line of work, and having a wife too, not having time to do trip reports is perfectly understandable in my eyes. I'm way behind on the forum and everything else because of my work, so I know the feeling. This time of year and all that...

You sure had an excellent year, way better results than me and far less needs!

I can't believe your last trip was in early November, but it sounds like a good one, including hellfire cats! Jealous of 68005 - it's my last of the original bunch (1-15) required for sight.

After two months the day has finally come, a day out bashing!! I’ve not been on here much in the last two months. Two reasons. I’ve been fairly busy and didn’t want to get too jealous!

My first bash of 2017 took me a lot of time to decide what to do. Go after loco/units I need or shacks. Anything I need means being at least in Cardiff (if I am lucky) or Southampton (again if I am lucky). So to increase my chances of getting winners I have to go to London or the West Midlands. Shack wise my nearest required shacks are Somerset/Wiltshire/Dorset. In the end the pull of a chance of winning trains was greater. The shacks can wait.

I hadn’t been to the West Midlands for nearly a year so that was where I decided to go. With Cross Country fares absolutely off this planet (it is beyond me how anyone can afford to go to Birmingham on a train!) If they do have advances that are reasonable I never find them! So it would be a drive to the area and then a West Midlands Day Ranger.

Up at 0515 I jumped in the shower and then went and got some food. I was ready and off. I stepped outside and the temperature had plummeted over night to zero degrees. It had been 7 degrees the day before but -3 the day before that! What’s going on!). As I want north it obviously got colder. By the time I got to Bromsgrove it was -3.

I parked up at the new station which in my eyes is much better. Clearly a bigger carpark (and a reasonable £3 for a day) and the station is going to be more useful once the wires reach it! I got out and went to get my car parking ticket. The machine had frosted over completely but someone before had scrapped off the bits that needed to be seen to get a ticket!

With that got I went and sat in the car for a while longer (no waiting rooms at Bromsgrove which isn’t a good thing but the old one didn’t have them either if I remember correctly). With ten minutes to go I went and got my ranger for the day and headed over to wait for my train.

Whilst waiting I tried to get some gen for some of my requirements. I needn’t have worried about one of them. 170510 rolled in to take me to New Street. That was my last LM 170 required so that leaves me with 3 Scotrail 170s left. I was glad for the warmth of the train but I left my hat on (which ended up staying on all day!). I got a bit of good news on my way in. A few units I needed to know about were around but a couple of others weren’t showing.

With that info I worked out a plan that would see me to lunch time. After this I had little time to kill so I had a wonder to find the toilets. Thank goodness they are free at New Street. I then headed down for 350256 which was off to Liverpool. I bailed at Smethwick Galton Bridge and crossed to the other side. We were informed that the next train was formed of two coaches but it wasn’t. 158827 led 158831. The important bit was 158827 though as it was my last ATW 158. Just one more ATW train left to find (a 153 which lets face it, could be anywhere in Wales! Will have to hope it is working the Cardiff Bay shuttle next time I am there!)

20170105-Smethwick Galton Bridge-158827 by Steven Booth, on Flickr

Once I arrived at New Street I had some time before my next planned move. I was hungry so decided (even though it was nowhere near lunch time) I would get a baguette from baguette world! Bargain at 99p and quickly devoured! I then went down to platforms and waited for my train. 323212 and 323243 arrived and I cautiously got on. That wasn’t what I was expecting. Had they changed the diagrams? I had to get on as I was due to meet another train coming the other way.

After a few minutes I realised I had got on the wrong train. I was too early! The one I needed was behind! So I bailed at Selly Oak and after another 11 minutes 323240 and 323211 arrived! Thats better! I took this for a new shack at Northfield where I was to meet 323242 coming the other way! That was the Class 323s cleared completely! A good morning and wasn’t even midday yet!

So with what I knew done, my attention turned to Moor Street and the 68s. I was looking for 68010 which keeps avoiding me! A quick walk over to Moor Street and in the platform was 68011. There was no sign of anything I needed now so I thought I would scratch some shacks. I kind of had no plan at all and made it up as I went but I didn’t want to stray too far so I could see what the 68s were.

172219 took me to Widney Manor before 172339 (was running late so I made a -1) took me to Oulton. I was thirsty now so decided to walk to the required spoons nearby for a tea. It was then onto Spring Road for another new shack where 172342 took me back to Moor Street. 68013 was in the platform.

Then I made a silly mistake. I decided that I would head out to Leamington and meet the next 68 diagram and come back on it. Looking at the timetable I saw that the Chiltern service to Leamington would get me there on time. I didn’t realise until it was too late that the 68 in the platform would also have made it despite leaving hell of a lot later! Wasn’t impressed with myself for that stupid mistake. Would have been ok if I needed 165026 which I took to Leamington, but I didn’t!

After a short while the next 68 arrived. What was it? 68014. At this point I got a little annoyed. Where was 68010? It is never around when I am. I got on the train at the front and enjoyed the ride back but it wasn’t 010! Time to head back to New Street.

When I got there I went downstairs and there in front of me was 350250 arriving! Get in! My penultimate 350! I took this to Birmingham International. Just one more to find! At International I let a few things go but in the end decided to go after some shacks. I jumped on 390044 and headed back to New Street. From here I jumped on 323243 and 323212. I was going to go to Lichfield City but in the end stayed on it to Butlers Lane. The reason? I was getting hungry and decided I needed to get an early dinner to give me time for later on. So a very short wait at Butlers Lane saw 323213 take me to Four Oaks (I saw a short wait here) for 323217 forward to Sutton Coldfield. It was then a walk to the Spoons for dinner.

After a well needed feeding I walked onto Wylde Green for another shack via another spoons (for a pepsi and slowly knocking them off in Birmingham). Didn’t see much point in walking back on myself even if the walk would have been shorter. Time wise not much in it I would have thought.

323209 was had back to New Street and I set off once more to Moor Street. I had a while until the next (and last 68 diagram I could have seen that day) was due. I also had to decide what to do. I didn’t want to be too late back but wanted more than half a mile off the 68 if it was the one I wanted! Aaaaargh

I spotted a fill in move that might produce a winner. I jumped on 153364 that was leading 170634 to Snow Hill. In the platform was the next Marylebone bound train. Good move. 168217. I started to look closely at RTT too. The 68 heading north was 3 late apparently but due to make time up before Solihull. We left on time. Do I bail at Moor Street and wait? I went for it! I stayed on to Solihull.

If it worked out, I would now have a +1. Also with it being an island platform it makes it easier! We arrived and there was no sign of the 68! I made it. Now I just had to wait.

After a while the 68 could be heard and then it could be seen. What was it? 68010! Yes! At last! It was onto Moor Street we went and then I bailed. I could have stayed on and eventually made my way to Bromsgrove from Droitwich, but the cold wait at both Kiddy and then Bromsgrove really didn’t appeal. I would have also not got back until 2100!

20170105-Solihull-68010 by Steven Booth, on Flickr

20170105-Birmingham Moor Street-68010 by Steven Booth, on Flickr

I headed over to New Street for the last time today and went down to the waiting train back. 170512 led 153334 and I sat in the middle of the 153 for some DBT! Once back at Bromsgrove it was back to the now frosty car and onwards to Plymouth.

A fantastic first day for 2017! Some bits and pieces cleared for the West Mids which means next time I can concentrate either on Chiltern units, Pendos or shacks. See how I feel on the day, next time I am there I guess.

As for today, some stats:
162 miles traveled
7 winners
8 new shacks

and 2017 is kicked off as 2016 finished, a winning 68 for haulage!!

Great report Noddy, lucky break with the 158, 350 and the 68010. That was indeed a good start to the year.

An excellent day out there. Must really think about a blitz on 350s - I need far too many of the LM ones!

Finally you've got that Chiltern 68! It's my highest mileage Chiltern 68, not had it for a long time mind.

Very good day on my stomping grounds!

Thanks guys. Was good day. It made the freezing cold more bearable and the 6 hour drive there and back worth it. I would get a train there but XC charge hundreds where as it cost me about £40 in fuel.

A brilliant day out there.
Congratulations on clearing the 323s and getting 68010.
I hope I'm as lucky with 68015 the next time I'm down that way.

This trip was actually the first I had planned/booked for the year! I managed to get some reasonably priced advances at the back end of November which would see me go to London for the day. What I would do when I got there I had no idea of though!

Up at 0430 I got ready and was off a few minutes before 0500. My train was due off at 0530 and it left bang on time. 43197 and 43160 were powering and it mean another two GWR power cars had joined the 1000+ mile club. I had bought my laptop with me as I needed to write something up and that certainly made the journey pass by quickly. By the time I had finished we had just left Reading! I now had to plan what to do. I had got gen on a couple of units I needed so my day was sort of dictated by that. I had just over two hours to kill before needing to be at Farringdon. Shacks? Units in area I needed? I kind of made my mind up as arrived into Paddington.

I saw a required turbo (165113 was with 165112) and jumped on that as it was handily leaving just after the 0930 off peak starts! I bailed at Ealing Broadway because behind was the Hayes & Harlington shuttle with 387133 and 387132 which I actually took to the new bay platform. This made an Oxford - Paddington train operated by 165109. Having seen the other shuttle service earlier (and knowing what was on it) I got off at Ealing Broadway. 387135 and 387137 were working the other shuttle and once more I was heading to Hayes. A good start to the day!

It was 165132 back to Paddington now, as I needed to start making my way over to Farringdon. I jumped on 21563/564 and started what in the end would be a mini fester! Nothing I needed, either tube or heavy rail came through whilst I waited for the train my unit was supposed to be on! No matter, 24 minutes later 377520 and 377509 arrived and I took this to Blackfriars. Now I decided that I would head to Waterloo and see if anything I needed was around. I had about 3 and half hours till my next planned move!

700015 took me onto Elephant & Castle where the short walk down to the Northern line produced nothing! 51648/647 took me to Bank and for the first time in well over a year, used the Waterloo & City line to get to Waterloo on 65507/508.

It wasn’t long until I saw something I needed. 458503 was in the platform and I fumbled my way through the barriers as the ticket wouldn’t come out of the wallet. I really wish Oyster could be used as a travel card. I know it caps, but if you miss a touchpad somewhere it screws it right up and starts over charging! Been there before and then you have to go and get your money back! TFL should just allow you to add a travel card for the day onto the card and doesn’t matter what you miss! Rant over! Anyway once i reached the train I realised I was lucky! It should have already left but I got on! As we meandered our way out of Waterloo I spotted a pair of 456s with a 455. I still need some 456s and they seem to work over in Guilford mainly. The first one was 456012 and the second was 456014! Needed one of them!

Simplest thing to do was bail at Vauxhall and wait for it to come back out. Won’t be long! Ten minutes later I was on 456012 led by 5725 and 456014! I got to Clapham just as another 456/455 combo was leaving. Another 456 on it that I needed! Do I risk chasing it or just wait? I waited. Wouldn’t be long and I could see what else was kicking about. I spotted my first 707 for sight at the depot and went and got a picture. Back at the platform 5739, 456003 and 456017 soon arrived and off I went to Wimbledon. This had gone well. Now I was in two minds (well three as I was hungry too). Do I go for some shacks on the Wimbledon loop or head back to Clapham and see what 458s I needed were about? I saw a couple of moves on the loop that could be done but decided to leave them until more 700s are about so at least I was scoring new units as well as shacks. I headed back to Clapham (via the Pasty shop) on 5902 and 5723.

I saw one of my required 458s at Wimbledon depot. I only had a few left to get! Had I made the wrong decision? Peak time would have been easier to find them! Can’t go back now! I got to Clapham and headed over to platforms 1-8. I hadn’t made the wrong decision! Five minutes later 458827 with 458819 arrived! I bailed at Barnes when I realised that it was heading round the Hounslow loop! 458506 back to Clapham just in time for 458501! Yes! I took this on a micro leap to Wandsworth Town which stopping at the Island platform made a -2 with 450001 and 450088 back to Clapham!

Nine minutes later I was on 450042 led by 450004! This was going too well and decided now was the time to leave the area! I bailed once more at Wandsworth Town and headed back to Clapham on 458509. A brisk walk over to the LO platform and 378219 was had towards Willesden Junction. I saw an opportunity to get a new shack (needed at least one today!). I saw a move for two but that would have my planned move cut fine and didn’t want to risk it! So onto Kensal Rise for a new shack and then back to Willesden Junction on 378229. Then down to the lower levels I got 378218 into Euston.

I had a little while until my planned move. It hadn’t even come in yet. I pondered popping out to the Euston Tap for a pint but then thought if I do that and the unit I was waiting for didn’t show I would have wasted time. I looked at the incoming arrival on RTT and it was about 5 minutes away. After a quick look in Smiths it was back to the platforms to see what was coming in! 350243 and 350232! My final 350! I got on (after an awful photo! It is Euston!) and waited to leave for Harrow & Wealdstone! Finally I cleared the 350s, and the London Midland fleet at the same time!

At Harrow & Wealdstone I waited for the return train which was 350231 and 350103. I sat in the 350/1 and then pondered my next move. That day had been going really well so far! DLR was decided upon with a little side plan attached! 51602/716 were had down to Bank before I jumped on the first train at Bank towards East London. After I got off I discovered it was 111, 142, 109 that took me to Shadwell. Now I would fester. It wasn’t as cold as I had expected (well I didn’t feel as cold!) so wasn’t too bad to fester. That said I didn’t have to! I could see what was going in and I just waited for it to come back out!

Eight minutes had passed and I was on the move once more. 52, 68, 77 onto LImehouse. Two minutes later I was at Westferry courtesy of 37, 49, 09. Three minutes later I was off to Poplar on 105, 144 and 110. I needed to be back at Shadwell. I saw another unit I needed heading in and needed to be back! 116, 128 and 140 all the way back to Shadwell. Five minutes later I had my fourth DLR unit of the day! 152, 106 and 126 took me to Limehouse. I can’t believe I scored 4 of the 8 DLR units I needed in 35 minutes! But my attention had now turned to the side plan!

Normally I don’t worry about new stuff that much when older stuff is out there to get. I guess because (I think) I have cleared the stuff which is at risk for being scrapped (in London), its not so critical now and my next plan would be easier to get now, I kept a look out for the 387/3s. Whilst DLR hunting I saw one 12 car 387/3 train pass through Limehouse. I worked out incorrectly when it should be leaving Fenchurch (I could have sworn RTT showed the ECS move going into platform 2 and therefore the next working out was 1719!) Needless to say it didn’t matter! I headed over to wait with enough time and when it came in I jumped on. 387303, 387301 and 387305 were had to West Ham. As I got off the other 12 car 387/3 was on a ECS move to Fenchurch. A few minutes later a train into Fenchurch arrived and I got on. I could make this before the 387 came out. So 357015, 357023 and 357035 took me in and I headed over to a waiting 387302, 387304 and 387306! That was easy!

At West Ham I had to bail as the train was not stopping anywhere within the travel card area. I then (getting hungry now) decided to head over towards Paddington. I was booked onto the 2035 but after good day I decided maybe I should call it a day get some food and get a few drinks. So onto 21470/469 and I got off at Mile End (easy transfer onto Central line) as I thought I may as well try and score some Central line units. What happened next was beyond belief! The next set of moves were made in one hour exactly! It would have been quicker but the first twenty minutes were spent mostly waiting for the trains to move as their was a faulty train a few stops away. Luckily they sorted that and we were soon moving quickly!

Anyway the moves were

92261, 92252, 92184, 92299 Mile End - Bethnal Green
92003, 92130, 92448, 92179 Bethnal Green - Liverpool Street
92xxx, 92242, 92081, 92200 Liverpool Street - Bank
92199, 92214, 92142, 92229 Bank - St Paul’s
92221, 92418, 92222, 92041 St Paul’s - Chancery Lane
92335, 92434, 92100, 92145 Chancery Lane - Holburn
92149, 92058, 92178, 92327 Holburn - Tottenham Court Road
92163, 92002, 92148, 92215 Tottenham Court Road - Oxford Circus
92091, 92144, 92416, 92079 Oxford Circus - Bond Street
92111, 92064, 92186, 92305 Bond Street - Marble Arch
92235, 92156, 92256, 92313 Marble Arch - Queensway
92253, 92128, 92450, 92047 Queensway - Notting Hill Gate

I missed the number of one of the units as it was so busy. I even at that point thought why have I bothered now! It’s too busy and was not a pleasant experience! I even had to let one train go which had winners on it cos I couldn’t get on! After St Paul’s it was like everyone disappeared and the trains became comfortable again! It was hell for 10 minutes and then fine! I was glad it was though! 19 winners was more than I could have hoped for and my Central Line requirements are now down to 59!

At Notting Hill Gate I went back above ground! Food and drink was now in order. I spotted a Cask Marque pub and went and had a pint! I then set about getting some food. I found a Burger King. A conversation with Tech had made me want one (A Bacon Double XL no less). They messed up my order though and I ended up with a chicken something! I got the correct burger but in the end I didn’t enjoy it that much! Ah well! Was no longer hungry! I found another pub and got another drink before I headed back to Paddington. I was now nearer Bayswater so 21485/486 took me on to Paddington. I had ages before the train left and was surprised to find the train ready for boarding! 20 mins before the train was to leave. Never seen that before. 43144 and 43191 were in charge and off we went. I had never ever seen this service so empty! Even before Reading the train was empty but after there was only about 15 people in the carriage I was in!

We arrived into Plymouth 2 early. It was then the walk home in the drizzle! I was soaked by the time I got home but a very good day! 43 winners! 43! Couldn’t believe it! I had cleared the 350s and got a few more of the SWT train fleet! Halving my DLR requirements to 4 in 30 mins! Quite a few 387s fell and then the Central line boosted my numbers big time! The days mileage was 578m and 43c.

I’m in London again next week. Not sure what I’ll be doing yet but looking forward it!

That's really good Noddy. Is it easy getting the numbers of the tube stock as they race into the station? I've never taken their numbers in my life! I don't really know how it works, whereabouts are the set numbers on them?

Normally I'm ok with it. The number is on the front of the set is always the hardest as they are still carrying a lot of speed and then they start slowing down. I have to write them down and quickly look at my needs list to see if there is anything in the formation I need. Central line is the hardest as it's all split into four sets. When it get's busy it gets difficult as people get in the way of the point I focus on to see the numbers. Hence I missed one unit. On some lines the number is on the leading car of the unit which makes things even easier.

Central line is the worst as it is formed of 4 sets, and you only get a few seconds to grab the numbers and compare against the requirements, not easy when it is busy.

A successful day in London Noddy, to get down to 4 DLR units is amazing

So another stupid question then. Do they stick to any kind of diagram that you can look up somewhere or is it just a case of turn up and hope for the best?

I believe Working Timetables are available on the TFL Website (hopefully Keith might pop up with the link) which I believe show the diagram number that set is on.

Victoria Line/S-stocks/W&C Line are easy as they are in semi-permanent formations, and I'm not aware of any sets being swapped up yet (so if one end is 11001 the other end will be 11002).

The other lines (Northern/Jubilee/Piccadilly/Bakerloo) are two sets so I normally try and get a position mid-platform to be able to grab the ID of both sets when they roll in

Thanks for that Kite, I feel a bit more informed. :)

Jealous of your Thameslink move as it's my last 377 (509) to see!

Sorry to have tempted you into having a BK, more so that it wasn't enjoyable! A fantastic haul there and for someone who doesn't need an awful lot in London, 43 scores is rather amazing!

Wouldn't worry about the Bk! Wasn't your fault they messed up and then wasn't a great one!
