Read in Liverpool Central yesterday that there'll be no trains at all between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central between 24th July and the 27th August!! What on earth requires closing the entire line for 5 weeks??

You think that's bad, 3 quarters of the Hertford Loop is closed to all services from Cuffley to Alexandra Palace which means buses all stations between the two, buses between Cuffley and Potters Bar or trains between Cuffley and Stevenage via Hertford for a number of Sundays in the new timetable.
Just hope nothing goes pearshaped when there's works are on as it's a important diversionary route for the ECML.

You'd think Merseyrail would have some information about this on their website.

This is Merseyrail we're talking about though.

EVERY timetable has it printed inside, EVERY affected station has a poster with it written on (Liverpool Central has at least 10 posters up that tell you), National Rail website shows future engineering work also (even gives a PDF map).

The Merseyrail website gives information for the following 5 weeks. With it still being 2 months away, I don't really think you can say they won't give sufficient notice.

Printed Information available now, (2months prior)
Website Information available 5 weeks before.

Sounds reasonable to me...:s

A couple of years ago the line between Chorley and Preston was closed in July and August meaning Blackpool lost a lot it's longer distance services in the peak summer period. They normally use a school/college holiday reason for cases like this as more journeys aren't essential.
