No Super Off Peak offered

Try searching for the 15.53 departure from Hull to Kings Cross on Sunday 4th August (change at Doncaster to Grand Central)

Why would no Super Off Peak fares be shown for this service? They are available the following week.

Perhaps you wouldn't get a seat, but why couldn't someone just show up with a Super Off Peak ticket, nominally for an earlier or later train?

I expect the answer is that grand central quota control some walk up fares, so it is ‘not available’ even though it’s completely valid. There’s another thread in this somewhere, concerning Halifax to London journeys I think.

GC are one of several operators that falsely mark their trains as "reservations compulsory" in the timetable data. One effect of this is that they can control (and prevent) the sale of walk-up fares on their services, even where they are completely valid.

No doubt if challenged on why they are causing people to be overcharged, they would argue it's an oversight/mistake but there does seem to be a pattern of them blocking reservations for a lot of walk-up tickets that aren't routed "GC only".

It's almost as if they want to get their share of the revenue from interavailable tickets without carrying the according share of passengers... But I'm sure they'd strenuously deny any accusation of trying to have their cake and eat it!

You absolutely could. Since it's a walk-up ticket, a Super Off-Peak Single would be valid on any train subject to the relevant time and/or route restrictions.
