Hey there,

I was looking for a fare from Sheffield to Crewe (looking for a split for something) and noticed it produced an error 'An error has occurred. Please try again.'. I was looking for an open return, returns on set dates and the opposite direction (a single doesn't work either). I've also tried with my railcard and without and it just won't work. I've tried East Coast and RedSpottedHanky.

I am being a fool or is something amiss? (It works on TheTrainLine sites, Nothern's site and on National Rail.)

Cheers.

The only fares showing are:
FOR £69.40 / FDS £36.50
SDS £19.20
SVR £32

The Off Peak £32 ticket has code 8A, meaning valid on any train out and back, so that should show online. Quite why anyone would buy the more expensive SDS at £39.20, I don't know!

I've had a few problems with WebTis today. I've just tried Sheffield - Macclesfield, and this does not work either. I tried all of this on londonmidland.com, who use WebTis, and i'm getting error has occured. I think the software is down.

I had similar problems with the East Coast site this morning. Seemed to work fine unless a via point was specified in which case it always returned the "An error has occurred" message irrespective of whether the via point was on a permitted route or not. Just tried it again and still not working, despite me reporting it to them several hours ago.

I'm getting similar errors. Sankey-Earlestown in my case, no via specified.

Weird. Avantix says only the following are available (route Stockport)

FOR £69.40
FDS £36.50
SVR £32.90
SDS £19.30

Well, it looks like something is wrong. I'll give them a few days and if it's not working I'll send them (who? ATOC or the respective companies?) an email.

This has just made me think of something. Is there a list of 'translations' of all these codes somewhere that I could look at? Some of them are obvious but some could be anything!

These are the only fares available for Sheffield to Crewe, (from the official Staff Manual).

All fares are routed STOCKPORT. You must travel via Stockport.

Arriva Trains Wales sets the fare.

1st Open Rtn R 69.40
1st Anytime Day Sgl S 36.50
Anytime Day Single S 19.30
Off Peak Return 8A R 32.90
7 Day Season R 131.60

Have been encountering this issue too, when specifying a via point.

Crewe - Sheffield is cheaper via Derby, rebooking there. Even cheaper if you do Crewe - Uttoxeter and use a Derbyshire Wayfarer for Uttoxter - Sheffield, but that has to be bought in advance.

Oh, I thought it was just an isolated issue! Been given £50 of RSH credit to use and I can't even buy the ticket I want because I need to specify a 'via' point to get it :( - even if I click the 'Show slower routes' -> 'via x' it doesn't work! :(

Edit: tried using the text-only interface.

If I enter x as the via point, it will not proceed to the timetable screen with a 'fatal error'.
If I do not enter it, I can choose 'off-peak fares', then find the exact fare - select 'choose this fare' - login - ok - almost there! ... no, another error. :(

Sent an email off to them, wonder if they have the same hours as the call centre - hope I get a response on Monday as I want to go out week after next!

I get fares too from Southern, but by specifying via Uttoxeter so they are not just available Route Stockport

OK - The only tickets available are route STOCKPORT. It's certainly possible to go via Stockport, Stoke and Uttoxeter (91.75 miles) but the direct line via Stoke to Derby is just 49.5 miles. That makes it a permitted route (shortest route).

However, with no fare available for that route, it's impossible to tell if the STOCKPORT ticket is valid that way (it would be if the fare for the direct route was lower than the Stockport fare - Section A of the routeing guide says "Where there are other permitted routes, these may also be used for the same journey provided the same or a lower fare applies.")

So maybe WebTIS is getting into a mess with this? It could be finding the only fare available (rt STOCKPORT) and then trying to apply the price rule against a direct ticket that doesn't exist. Result: unhandled error if not carefully programmed.

Apparantly the uploading of NFM 10 and an update to the Webtis software has caused problems which they are working to resolve.:(

I think the WebTIS problems may be resolved now as I'm no longer getting the error message when selecting a via point on East Coast.
