No asterisk in Lumo’s timetable for Stevenage

We’ve done the Watford and Stevenage pick up only discussion to death but I find this discovery to be significant.

Nothing in Lumo’s latest timetable indicates that one cannot travel from Stevenage to London. Therefore, it is surely unreasonable if someone refers to said timetable, identifies a train from Stevenage to London, and turns up for that train - to then get on that train?

In my opinion, this totally changes the whole “pick up / drop off only” scenario. If there was a “u” or some sort of asterisk, note or small print, it’d be different, but no, this timetable effectively advises customers that there is a train from Stevenage to London King’s Cross at X, Y and Z times.

I don’t know whether the previous timetable was the same, but this now makes me more furious than ever that they are refusing to let people on - and as they did in my case once - not closing the doors and leaving until anyone they see boarding gets off.

They have never been allowed to operate Stevenage as an open stop - it’s a condition in their TAA.

While that timetable is misleading, in your case you knew what you were doing and that it wasn't permitted. You are 100% right that this document should have a 'u/d' marking as appropriate to avoid confusion.

If you tried to travel purely on that timetable I'd have a certain amount of sympathy with the argument. However if the data is in the digital timetable then no journey planner will offer you that train as an option, nor will it be shown on the boards so my sympathy would be limited.

What is the actual change you would like to see happen? Because it's quite easy to get them to add the set down/pick up only marker to the next timetable.

A case of picking your battles. They are disallowed from carrying traffic between SVG and KGX.

There we go, answered the question.

I don’t have any intention on travelling SVG KGX as I know myself it’s not permitted and there’s plenty more trains, but I know lots of people who still plan journeys exclusively on timetables. It’s a silly oversight.

They're shown as pick-up and set down only in the official Great Britain Passenger Timetable, it appears that Lumo's own publicity is lacking.

The Stevenage calls won't appear on the departure boards and you won't be able to purchase a ticket online. To be fair someone in the know could buy a ticket from a TVM or ticket office but this is going to be an edge case.
