NNR Standards Gala

Unfortunately yes this is true... However hopefully we shall be able to source the replacements and still pull off a brilliant gala!

"The North Norfolk Railway has received information that 70013 Oliver Cromwell and Standard 4 76084 will be unable to attend the planned Standards Gala in March. The reason for this is related to over running works on both locomotives. The Railway is currently talking with other owners to try to secure worthy replacements.
We are pleased to say that Britannia will be arriving across the crossing on the afternoon of the 7th March while the the Standard Tank 80072 and Standard 2 78019 will arrive by road. Any developments concerning additional locomotives will be announced in due course. "

The following two locomotives have been confirmed as attending the North Norfolk Railway March Gala:-

Large Prairie number 4141 was built in August 1946 to a long established George Churchward & Charles Collet design and following being used on the mainline around Gloucester and latterly hauling expresses between London and Cheltenham, 4141 was withdrawn in February 1963. Like 4953, 4141 went to Barry and was the 28th locomotive to leave the site for preservation in January 1973. 4141 is currently resident at the Epping and Ongar Railway.

Black 5 45407 is a busy mainline locomotive, available for all types of charter work around the country. She is a regular performer on the Settle and Carlisle route and In Fort William on West Coast Railways "Jacobite Express" steam services between Fort Willian and Mallaig. She will be attending the North Nofolk Gala for the first weekend 8,9,and 10th March courtesey of Ian Riley the current owner of the Locomotive.

There maybe a third addition news of which we hope to publish later this month.

seeing as my post was deleted from this thread i hope the gala goes swimmingly and you all have fun - humour seems to be forbidden now.

If Oliver Cromwell is U/S can a large replacement not be sourced? Bit of a let down to have a big engine replaced by a small tank engine.

I can assure you that the organisers have tried their best to source what they can!

It's a shame that the prairie isn't passed for main line use as it could have been towed by brittania from the the nene valley railway after the steam gala there on the 23rd & 24th February.

Second post : 9th March 2013 2135.

Due to an incident that took place this morning, it is with regret that the NNR has had to report that 70000 and 78019 BR Class 2MT have been withdrawn from service for the duration of the Gala. There are rumours travelling around about what happened, however we ask you to understand that there is an investigation process that the railway will go through, speculation isn't useful nor will it help anyone.

Riley's Class 37, 37518 will be out in action tomorrow in it's Intercity Swallow livery covering a diagram - further details about the second weekend of the gala will be released as soon as it becomes available.

You have to feel truly sorry for everyone involved in organising the event. On top of yesterday's problem the weather was absolutely awful too.

And then to rub salt into the wound, the Norwich - Sheringham service is replaced by buses today and next weekend for planned engineering work.

Presumably the date for the gala was based around locomotive availability, so there was no chance of avoiding the engineering work, which would have been in the Network Rail diary a year ago.

A light engine move through Crown Point, I assume related to this. Can anyone, probably TP enlighten me as to what it was? Couldn't see it as it was hidden behind a MK3 set in the reception road.

Looked like a BR Standard Pacific, so I presume either 70013 or 71000 given the recent events with 70000.

It was 37518, with 2 support coaches and then 45407 and 70000 on the back from the NNR to Bury?, I believe that 70000 was involved in an incident on Saturday Morning, the details of which I do not think are publicly available yet as there is an internal report ongoing.

When it passed New Mills Central, it was the 37, then the black five, then the two support coaches, and 70000 bringing up the rear, with a right pother on!

From what I gather, I believe the J15 will NOT be running this weekend. There is a class 31 diesel, 9f, 4mt tank, gwr prairie tank, a gwr hall and wissington. However I stand to be corrected

Why would they run a 31 at a steam gala when they have a j15 there? Where did you get this info?

I'm guessing I could phone up to find out..

I was wrong I went yesterday. Locos running were 9f, j15, wissington, 80072, 4141 and the hall plus class 31

Even with the eclectic mix of traction, Rain and wind it was still a really good day.

I was surprised how quiet it was compared with other gala's at the NNR, however I guess the missing 7MT's and the the rain must have put people off.

As always the NNR put on a good show though.
