NM label?

Out of curiosity only, what would a sign with the characters 'NM', stuck on the screen of a 465, mean. I noticed it today on a train running between Maidstone and Ashford. There was some smaller wording which I couldn't read from where I was watching. The sign was of black lettering on a yellow plate.

'NM' stands for 'Non-Multi', meaning that a set cannot work in multiple with another set.
The label is displayed on the screen above the defective coupler; Last week a pair of Cross Country Class 170s were in Leicester as a four car set with an 'NM' label on the screen on the leading vehicle. The coupler is normally out of use due to a technical fault or damage to it.

The fault may not necessarily be with the coupler itself but have something to do with being coupled to another unit. One of the XC Cl170s that had a non-multi sticker was because the fire bottles went off when coupled to another unit. Until the cause of the fault could be determined and dealt with it was felt that no other unit should be coupled to that end.
