Anyone know when the Nissan train runs and what time in the north east?

the silly thing is the leamside line runs past the factory - they could send loads of stuff out by rail

One can only assume that road transport came in with a cheaper price? I guess the average journey lengths would have been an issue too?

Way things are going with the A19 and roads in Washington - in a few years time it will be total gidlock.
Here's an idea: Nissan could part fund the reopening as far as Washington, with some funding from Network Rail and local councils and PTE. Nissan gets the cars to Tyne Dock quicker, and would be able to do this without charge for a period of a few years. Washington then has a realistic chance of being put on the railway map, as someone would only need to build a station and get some rolling stock from Northern to run on it. Would be a perfect solution to the under-use of the MetroCentre shuttles for most of the day.

It would cost a bomb to refurbish the Leamside Line, the amount of vegetation growing on it, landslides(funnily enough near Nissan) and not to mention replacing track, some of which was stolen
But it is a relatively fixed capital cost to start off with. The 'carrot' for Nissan would be free access to Tyne Dock by rail - instead of having to pay for everything to go by road.
