Ive seen 3 reviews that suggest the D60 isn't very good compared to the D40, but two suggest its better. Anyone have any suggestions?.

Anyone who suggests that the D40 is talking bull****.

The Nikon D40 is cheaper, and you could get more bundled stuff with it from Jessops, but the D60 is simply a better camera.

I fail to understand how reviews can say that it's inferior to the D40x considering that it's an upgraded version of the same with more features and better image quality!
