Nightmares

Has anyone had nightmares of taking rail assessments?

I had one despite no assessment due!

Dreamt I was taking the drivers assessment but it was harder!


Was a huge booklet with lots of weird tests like subtraction etc then I was told I was doing the wrong tests and the examiner ridiculed me 'tired are you?'

I felt completely immobile and the time was tick tick ticking away and I couldn't understand the questions or do anything about it.

Not a good dream!

When I was training I used to have a spad dream , where the brakes just failed and the train would not stop.
Other drivers I have spoken to have had similar dreams.

Mine recurring nightmare is 'invisibility', which most staff checking tickets can relate to.

When I was training I used to have a spad dream , where the brakes just failed and the train would not stop.
Other drivers I have spoken to have had similar dreams.

I still have them after 12 years of driving and I am always going really slow about 5mph and the train just won't stop

Didn't think you signed Lime St. I could swear the bufferstops have huge magnets in them. So far they've claimed two pendos and a 142!

My worst nightmare would be to fall off the roof of a loco I was helping to restore splitting the back of my head open, get strapped to a stretcher and then carted off to hospital, lay there for 3 hours still strapped to the stretcher waiting to be x-rayed with my ex-wife on one side of the bed and my present partner on the other side going on about my "dangerous" hobby!

Oh hang on a minute that actually happened!

I've had both of those, but not regularly by any means. The brake failure one seems to involve rolling back and being unable to do anything about it, rather than trying to stop for a station/signal.

Nah, I had those dreams before we got into the blame culture, have had them right throughout my career, so have most other footplatemen

Mind you a guy once told me that he once dreamt that he was over-shooting Kent House station, when he woke up, he was

I had a SPAD dream last night, went from a green straight to a red. Stopped to report it, then carried on....driving the train through the middle of an airport terminal to drop the passengers off, weaving in and out of the people milling about. Dreams are weird.

Sadly I woke up before the download could prove it would be a Cat B.

I think the human mind works the same in all walks of life and in all occupations where the £$%^ can hit the fan if you somehow manage to get it wrong.

I'm in the aviation buisiness and have had nightmares before along a similar theme ie....not so long ago I dreamt that I was half way across the atlantic and checked the fuel guages.....oops where's all the fuel gone....I'm sure that I had loaded enough....did I forget to check etc etc !

I imagine If I ever became a driver then I would join you all in the same way.

I also work in Aviation as an engineer and have a recurring nightmare where the throttles begin to ramp up on their own and I can't pull them back or disengage. I can see the terminal buildings at some generic airport getting closer and closer.

Weird, I guess as said before we all worry about what can go wrong in our own little worlds!

The silly thing about most of my SPAD and station overrun nightmares is that I always dream I can put my foot on the ground and slow the train just in time, like I used to do on my bike when I was a kid. Funny old things, dreams.:roll:

The night I passed my driving test, I dreamed I was turning in the snow at tesco, span out, and rear ended a lamp post in tesco, and the car was on fire :/
