Hi all
I've booked the Nightjet Brussels-Vienna with my daughter (will be 5 1/2 by then) for one Friday in December.
We'll have arrived in Brussels that morning on E* and will spend time with relatives before getting the sleeper. Then in Vienna, Christmas markets etc. and flying home on Sunday.
I had a couple of questions and I wondered if anyone could help?
- I presume no lounge or waiting facilities at BXL Midi, Seat61 recommends waiting in the bar of the Pullman hotel. I presume they won't have an issue with a well-behaved child?
- Is there safe/efficient left luggage at Midi?
- I have read the occasional report of the sleeper turning up without one of the sleeper carriages. Is this common? We have a twin occupancy, deluxe, flexible fare, so what happens if we are affected? Do people get 'bumped' from the remaining carriage like an airline would do, or do they just offer you couchettes/seats as an alternative? Is there any refund if this takes place? What happens if you decide not to travel (I would probably elect to stay in Brussels and then try and fly to Vienna first thing...if that were even possible?)
- How is the ride quality on this route - conducive to a reasonable night's sleep?
- I presume the shower etc. is reliable, unlike the Cal Sleeper!? Also that a child (I said she was 7 when booking to force a berth for her and the double occupancy) would also get breakfast?
- any other tips for travelling with a child!

Thanks in advance BL

There's no ÖBB lounge in the station, and even the Thalys lounge is not in the station, but across the street. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby though, most of which will happily welcome a child as well.
If you're into beer: Cantillon (open until 17.00) and l'Ermitage are just a short walk away!

There are indeed luggage lockers in the station, quite easy to use, and there's no scanning or checks necessary, unlike in the UK. See Seat 61 for photos and instructions.
