Night Running during Day?

Hi,

Just seen a 66 light engine with its night running headlight on (left side). Is there any reason for this or is it just a simple mistake?

The other headlight (day) could be defective.
Also if it's in the morning the loco could have commenced it's journey in the dark and it's easy to forget to change them over.

It had only just left about an hour ago, but your first point could be true.

Could even be simple human error. Not ideal as more likely to glare drivers coming the other way, but not a massively big deal

Surely it'd be less likely to glare into oncoming drivers' eyeshaing the night on during the day?

Now having the day on at night is a different matter.

LED signals are worse at doing that than the headlight of another train!

I don't pay much attention to be honest. Only recently when I've had a trainee with me she's asked why I'm using the wrong headlight. Far too keen

I noticed a Southern 377 doing this the other day at about 0845. Possibly a defective 'day' light, and it is rare to see, to the extent that my brain registered something out of the ordinary but I couldn't immediately identify what it was.
