Is there a reason why no services are stopping at Whitechapel? Is that due to Cross rail works?

Could be planned for that. Also as the station is sub-surface it would require more London Underground staff to be on duty overnight over and above the single staff member would be already on duty overnight and this might not be arranged/costed.

Been looking forward to this and now trains not stopping at my local Overground stop at Whitechapel, great. A walk from Shoreditch High Street along Bethnal Green Road it is but better than no service at all!

They are both operated by Overground so they can source their own staff though.

A lot fewer ECS manoeuvres generally need to take place out of the Norwood end of Selhurst Depot in the early hours of weekend mornings, which means overnight works in the Norwood Junction area are rather more convenient on early Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The Selhurst end of the depot can accommodate some but not all stock moves - only if the Slow lines on that side are open for traffic.

As for running a service on the Fast lines between Norwood Jn and New Cross Gate... it is actually technically possible, but it would need to run as a separate shuttle to the core ELL service. As passengers would need to change trains and platforms, it might not be quite as viable as a through service. You also have to bear in mind that the tracks on this route are paired by direction not use, therefore any worksite on one line in one direction may also need to impact on the other line in the same direction, which is immediately alongside/adjacent.

Further cements NXG as a bit of a mini-hub.

It needs a rebuild and remodel, before the Bakerloo might arrive. I'd suggest stopping all trains there. The links to the ELL and Bakerloo would be hugely useful, and keep a lot of people off the Jubilee line (both directions from LB) and London Bridge overall.

With a bay for the ELL, you could explore sending the New Cross trains there... or perhaps an underground connection from the Bakerloo to the New Cross station, as it'll be aligned west/east. Thinking like the two exits at London Bridge Jubilee line - but less flash!

I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, perhaps a London Recconnections article, but Bakerloo at New Cross Gate would probably use the adjacent open land to the East of the station and just extend the footbridge over platform 1 and across the Down ELL.

I agree with your thoughts but in fact IIRC it’ll actually be built on the Sainsbury’s retail park on the West side

The new “Night Tube” map which I’ve seen today shows Whitechapel crossed out accompanied by a dagger with the note “Night services not stopping until Summer 2018.”

There is an argument that both New Cross and New Cross Gate should be served equally.

Why? That would just cause confusion as people wouldn't know which station to go to without consulting the timetable. It's not that far to walk from one to the other anyway.
