For those interested, the 1936 documentary “Night Mail”, looking at the operation of Royal Mails train delivery service in the 1930’s, is being shown on Talking Pictures TV Christmas Eve at 1:40pm, and again on Christmas Day at 7:30pm.

Talking Pictures is worth keeping an eye on, as it features historic railway documentaries quite often. Not just the well known ones such as Night Mail and Terminus, but more esoteric fare.

Films I have caught in the last couple of years include the introduction of the Blue Pullman, how to prepare a 1st generation DMU for service and one about a shunter during WW2 who helped to deal with a fire on an ammunition train.

If you miss the first showing then they tend to be repeated several times over a couple of months.

That only works on some TV's though, (i think Freeview Play TV's, though I could be wrong)- there's no red button prompt on my Panasonic although I've had it since 2015. however, they also run the catchup service online at tptvencore.co.uk

Talking Pictures TV also showed 'Night Mail 2' about a year or so ago.

It was made in 1986 as a sequel to the original programme 50 years on. Was a good watch.

I have a DVD (bought from the NRM many years ago) containing the original plus three bonus films from the Royal Mail Film Library. These are "The Midnight Hours" (13 minutes, 1987), "Poste Haste" (19 minutes, 1988) and "Mail Rail" (10 minutes, 1987). I haven't watched it for ages ... must take a look soon!
