I don’t know if this has been covered before, so apologies if it has, but I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of nicknames for loco class's and see if there are any regional patterns.

The reasoning for the name would be interesting too.

Thanks

Neil

I think 67's are "skips" because they look like an inverted rubbish skip

66 are probably called sheds as they are as common as a garden shed. They are also called ying yings and washing machines due to there sounds.

Class 91s can be called slabs! Mainly because of the secondary cab in the loco which are flat ended. But the front nose is pretty slab like.

I was going to call Class 70s flame throwers!

Surely Brick would be better? As they fly like a brick when you drop them :)

Ive heared 91's called Electras, IC225's and Mallards. (pretty self explainatory really)

Hasnt 890001 been called Aardvark too?

Those last two as far as I'm aware refer to a complete set of a 91 and its Mk4s rather than just the 91 itself.

Thats could be true, Especially for the IC225 name. Just put them in as they arent uncommon names, and for the amount of time 91's run alone its useful to know if any beginners are reading :)

OK I am a grumpy old observer:

A4's were always 'streaks'
Ivatt Class 4's were 'flying pigs' or were they 'mucky ducks'?

We always saved the latter for the Class 2's but that seems to have been lost now.
