NBG (EMU style ): No Bloody Good...? Could apply to almost any EMU class.

Off the street: Descriptive of a driver who joined the railway at that grade rather than working their way up the grades (as the "old lags" or "lifers" would prefer). Other similar terms of endearment include "boil-in-the-bag" or "microwave" driver.

To join the birds: Sounds like a stroll along a busy platform in the summer. 8)

no, they are very similar to class 60s

and also, the 'join the birds' one is a bit historic, so I'll give a clue...
it is strictly forbidden, and requires good balance when meeting the ground ...

Well, the only other possible candidate for "Doughnut" that is similar to a Tug is a Cl92 Electro-Tug.

Would "Joining the Birds" be riding on the brake stick or, as an alternative, riding on the steps of the shunter...?

class 92 is right, as the circular tunnel logos near the cab look like ring doughnuts

Right, that's that done, and 'to join the birds' is a bit hard, so I'll tell you. It means to jump off a moving train. New ones at the top...

hehe, the RES one is a dump anyway hock: but I'm hoping that Mr Fowler would let me help with its resoration I'm going to help them paint 47292 in to BR large logo soon

Only the ex scotrail 47/7s (701-713?), the original ones. They ran push-pull with the Mk2 DBSOs on EDB-GLC runs. The DBSOs being transfered to Anglia for use with 86s and the 47/7s moving south, when scotrail got 158s, some getting a nice coat of red, white and blue before once again being displaced, this time by 159s.

The RES "Duffs" were equipped with TDM so that they could work with the PCV's that were converted from Cl307 driving trailers. However, this was not push-pull operation in the same sense as the ScotRail operation. The idea was that the train would be "propelled" over short distances and at low speeds to remove the need to run the loco around or provide a second loco to draw the train out (e.g. at terminal stations). So only the original ScotRail Cl47/7's are really deserving of the nickname "Shove Duff".

Sorry to be a real pedant, but a "Feather" is a junction indicator. A route indicator is something different.

Stencil: Mini-route indicator on a position light signal comprising a light box with a cut-out showing a letter or number depending on the route (GhostCav).
Screw it down: Appy the handbrake, although can more generally be used to mean securing a train in a siding or platform (GhostCav).
