No, although National Rail tickets valid between Newcastle and Sunderland remain interavailable on the Metro even if they have a Railcard discount applied.

Any National Rail ticket with validity on any section of Metro that can get a Railcard discount, so tickets issued from "T&W Metro Zone A", Newcastle Airport, etc will all be accepted.

Including Newcastle to Sunderland, as stated above. If you're making sure a journey, you're better off using the LNER TVMs upstairs at Newcastle (or an eTicket) rather than the Metro TVMs which can't do Railcard discounts.

This won't get a railcard discount wherever you buy it as it is not a National Rail ticket - it is a ticket which has interavailability on National Rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. You might as well use a POP card.

Is that so you can use the ferry as well?

Not just - I wanted to cover the full network to the airport and all the other extremities like Sunderland, South Shields and the Whitley Bay loop - it took around 5 hours and was quite enjoyable (yesterday). I was great looking forward through the windscreen - shame the front seat is blocked off, but there was a bigger problem on a few trains where the entire front section was blocked off…. See photo!
