Thinking along the same lines, which country will he first manage to offend?

Liverpool?

I'm hearing an unsubstantiated rumour on the Westminster grapevine that Amber Rudd may be the new Home Secretary.... This evening will be a test of the reliability of my source...!

Confirmed!

Bojo is Foreign secretary, he's doing better than Gove.

My political views aside, I really can't believe anyone can take Johnson seriously. He may be an intellectual, but to have him in charge of Foreign Affairs beggars belief, he was hardly a 'hands on' London Mayor.....I would have preferred Osborne there.

Newsthump's take had the Queen becoming the new PM:
She has already appointed her main man Prince Philip as Foreign Secretary, causing almost four dozen diplomatic incidents in the last forty minutes, primarily with the government of the newly-renamed Bongo Bongo Land.

For the 94th time this month, life imitates satire.

What we know so far:

-Phillip Hammond will, as expected, become Chancellor of the Exchequer
-Amber Rudd to become Home Secretary
-Boris Johnson will become Foreign Secretary in a move seemingly designed to appease the Leave campaign
-Michael Fallon to remain as Defence Secretary
-David Davis and Liam Fox have both entered No. 10
-George Osborne has been sacked outright from the Cabinet - Theresa May has announced that he hasn't been offered any new positions at all

David Davis has been touted as 'Minister for Brexit', while Liam Fox could head up a new 'Department for International Trade'.

Given his links in the Defence and Weapons industry we'll be selling them to even more unsavoury characters, I would imagine.

Agreed...

BUT IT'S DONE! Liam Fox has been made Secretary of State for International Trade.

That surely has a lot more to do with the fact that the Tories don't have many MPs to choose from in the North? Seems like a rather pathetic attempt at point scoring to be honest.

Yes, don't really see the point in that, almost inevitable. Perhaps someone can come up with a breakdown of Tory MP's North v South (assuming it can be agreed where North starts)

and, a pet hate of mine, why do people in the media (and elsewhere) call Boris Johnson 'Boris' when they use the surname of everyone else?

You'd be surprised. I see your point, and there aren't many Tory MPs in the North, but I'm still surprised at how many there are. Although most are rural areas, there are still many that aren't...

She's got her own back with Osborne, so Gove's chances don't look too hot! Doubtless I'll be proved wrong.

Probably Secretary of State for Negotiating our Rejoining the EU after we Realized how bad the Brexit was :)

He couldn't force all MP's to support it, and let's not overlook the fact that it was legalised. I wonder why Labour never got round to doing that between 1997 and 2010?

Perhaps because in 1997, popular culture was still in general extremely homophobic, and anything like gay marriage wasn't remotely achievable - it just wasn't within the window of what the electorate would accept? It seems to me that the 1997-2010 Government did most of the heavy lifting in terms of pushing through some rough semblance of gay equality at a time when doing so was highly unpopular, and in the process, changing peoples' attitudes to gay rights, thereby finally leaving the country in a state in which gay marriage was relatively easy to achieve. The Conservative Government now is very gay-friendly, which is amazing. But I don't believe for a second that would be the case if Labour hadn't done the hard work of making it almost impossible for a party that wanted to Govern not to be gay-friendly.

I noticed that Ming Campbell kept answering questions in The World At One today with "... IF article 50 is triggered ..."

Meanwhile there are frequent groups of (mainly older) people regularly being shown on news broadcasts demanding that article 50 is triggered now. I think that even some of them can see that Brexit may never happen, or at least it will be the EEA option that won't change anything except that our control over the rule governing our behaviour will be even less and it will cost more that it did as a full member.

I defined it as the boundaries of the Northern Rail network, which I admit is a bit generous. But many of these places look towards Sheffield and Manchester for jobs and for amenities.

And Colne Valley (Jason McCartney) unless Calder Valley was a typo.

Ah. There I got misled by the number of Colnes we have in this country. I mean, come on, there's at least six.

More likely due to Tony Blair being (at least while in office) a closet Christian. There were quite a few God-botherers in his government, notably Ruth Kelly who was a member of the ultra-conservative Catholic group, Opus Dei.

Humberside not Northern? Really? (yes, I know that was DarloRich's post not yours).
Indeed there are multiple Colnes and Calders but only one parliamentary constituency called Colne Valley- which was originally the western side of Huddersfield but now includes all of the wealthy Holme Valley too.

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty’s Government - every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

And now, to quote Churchill: "Oh, yes!"
