So Biden says another one coming. Todays news Monkeypox and fresh today Polio, Gonorrhoea. Polio heading tomorrows papers are they spreading fear or are constantly obsessed with health and disease these days?

The post-effects of polio can be debilitating. 1-10/200 can suffer irreversible paralysis/nervous dysfunction. Hospitalisation rates can put a strain on services. The UK has been ‘free’ from polio but if community transmission is occurring and doing so because of a reduction in vaccination rate or lack of vaccination in immigrants then it’s not a good situation.

I'm puzzled as to why you posted in this thread and what point you are making exactly but I'm still none the wiser.

There is not going to be an epidemic in the UK as the vaccines we have are highly effective and approximately 90% of people are vaccinated (lower in London, for which efforts should be made to increase that figure). The Polio that is currently circulating is a form derived from vaccines given elsewhere; that doesn't happen with our vaccines.

Yes we should be trying to increase the vaccination rate but people who have been vaccinated don't need to be concerned.

There has not been a case of the 'wild' Polio virus in the UK since 1984. The vast majority of the population (and yes, we should increase that proportion) have excellent immunity to it.

Seems to me that you thought the wild virus was circulating; that certainly isn't the case. Any decent media article on the subject should be making this clear; any that do not do so are not sources worth paying any attention to.

Were you referring to the extremely strong Governmental response by China in the whole of the area of the large Wuhan province when Covid-19 virus first surfaced there?

I believe the likelihood of pandemics have increased for reasons such as deforestation and there needs to be more done to prepare and prevent but I fear human greed and anti-science attitudes are a major stumbling block.

It's a extremely serious issue, one way I assume to combat threats is to cut back (pardon the pun) human encroachment into wild areas. Certainly any 'searching out' of deadly pathogens has to be done with extreme caution considering the risk of accidental spread into the human population. Perhaps it's too risky so shouldn't be done? I don't claim to know the answers.

I think Biden bringing this up is valid. We are just another organism on the planet, whether we like it or not, and in my view are wrecking the planet through greed and thinking we are special.

Certainly I think that the threats humanity face require serious collaboration not war games!
