Has the 2nd platform at Newquay been re-opened yet?? I heard they were planning to do it as they now have direct London services

Newquay hasn't got any through services to London!
The only time they run is Mid-High Season with the extension of one Plymouth service during the week & on summer Saturdays.

IIRC the latest GW RUS has said that there's not a +ve BCR, which I believe is short sighted and to say the least naive, as by increasing the capacity on the line would actively encourage people to leave their cars behind & also make Newquay easier to get to & from, not only for people who live in the locale, but for those further afield.

It's a shame, because I like Newquay, it has many happy memories for me, but getting to it by road is a nightmare, I'd much prefer to use the train, but the service is so poor, it makes it impractical.

Then it maybe a very good time to hand it over & make it a heritage line, like the Lymington one in Hampshire, what a nice start to a holiday a steam service in the summer! Diesel out of season.

The Newquay branch works on the "one train only" principle, so when the London trains run they replace the local service, why would they need a second platform when you can only run 1 train at a time.
Now if they were going to re-signal the branch for 2 train operation it would make sense but would cost a lot of money and cant see who the BCR would stack up.

Thought there was a passing loop? I'm sure I've passed an HST before when travelling the branch.

Quick check in Rail Atlas shows there's one at Goonbarrow Junction.

And .. quick check on NRE for Sat 5/6/10 shows Newquay dep 0927 arrive Par 1027 (XC to Edinburgh) whilst there's a 0947 Par to Newquay arr 1101 (FGW from Plymouth).

Sorry ..
