Newport signalling

Since I last visited, the signals at Newport (Gwent) have been changed to LED type. The first thing I noticed was freight on the up/down relief lines seem to pass a good bit quicker than before. Has the station had a new raised speed restriction?

It was quite extensively remodelled trackwise at the west end a couple of years ago. I assume this is when speed improvements etc were carried out. The Maindee Curve, however, was singled this year.

There were long term speed restrictions on the relief lines at Maindee through the old point work. The points have now been removed with the recent resignalling/remodelling of the Maindee area and the line speed restored.
