Newly appointed signaller

Hi All,

I have recently been appointed as a signaller in Scotland and am looking for some information as to what I should expect in the coming weeks and months. I am to attend signalling school at the end of the month in either leeds or watford, has anyone attended these schools? And, if so, was it a good experience? I'm really looking forward to getting started and any information would be great!

I passed out last year from Leeds and had a great time and a good laugh though there was plenty of studying! Read the reply from Daz to myself, I found it very useful before I went too.

thanks guys, i've read through the thread and im really looking forward to getting started. How did yous find the transition from training to the box? Also, what type of money can be earned as a grade 4 signaller? I've heard some crazy figures being spoken off, i believe the basic salary starts on around 25k but can be heavily inflated by overtime worked!

there's been alot about driver and conductors on here so can you tell us about signaller's,how long from job ad to interview and training some toc's seen to be up to 6 months before they even reply.What's network rail like?

Signaller321- congratulations on your recent appointment!

I was wondering if you could help me....I have also applied for a signaller position in Scotland, passed the assessment day at the start of March, and had an interview last week. Could you tell me how long the whole process took after your interview? How soon did someone contact you to arrange your medical, etc. Any other steps to complete?

Can I be nosey and ask which signal box you'll be working in?

Depends on as you say, overtime and also how many sundays you are rostered.

But i would expect it to be over 30k without too much effort
