Newhaven Marine or Harbour ?

As its now closed I put this in history but I was wondering how and when Newhaven Marine changed from Newhaven Harbour. I just came across a great Dick Emery sketch on you tube taken at Newhaven. Look up BBC Dick Emery sketch selection on you tube. You can hear the announcer clearly specify Newhaven HARBOUR and theres a platform 3 indicator too. I know at some point the marine platform was considered a simple extension of the harbour platforms but wondered when the Harbour/Marine differentiation was made and if it had happened more than once. Presumably if it had remained platform 3 of Harbour station there would have been no need to formally go through a closure process ??

Believe the now closed station was originally named 'Newhaven Harbour (Boat Station)' when opened in May 1886 before being re-named 'Newhaven Marine' in May 1984.

Before 1984, it was also referred to as Platform 3 of Newhaven Harbour station.

Your last question was discussed in the long running thread about the closure, I thought myself if it had still been considered Harbour P3 it would have been a minor alteration and not subject to consultation, but others thought because it was built under a separate act a consultation would have been needed anyway.

The DfT also included the explanation of when it became “Marine” as 1984 in their closure proposal, confirming what @Mcr Warrior posted earlier.

Presumably then the Dick Emery sketch referred to by @Graham H in post #1 was filmed at the location some time before the 1984 name change. (Noting that the actor himself died in early 1983).
